The Sanctuary Golf Club, a prestigious member-owned private golf club located on Sanibel Island, FL is hiring a full time, year-round, experienced 2nd Assistant Superintendent / IPM Technician. We are looking for a motivated and professional staff member who will provide the highest level of service and golf course conditioning to our membership!
Our Greens and Grounds team is responsible for assisting in the appearance and safety of our world-renowned golf course, bordered by a wildlife refuge and surrounded by nature preserves, lakes and mangrove forests.
The 2nd Assistant Superintendent / IPM Technician is responsible for the processes of applying turf grass chemicals and fertilizers to the golf course properly, and at the appropriate times.
The focus of this role is maintaining chemical and fertilizer programs while assisting the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent in supervising the department's staff, working together to achieve and maintain optimum course conditions and landscaping expectations throughout all areas of The Sanctuary.

Operational hours begin at 6:30 a.m. and include shortened weekend work days.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Mixing and loading of chemicals as prescribed (label directed) rates.
- Application of chemicals and fertilizers in safe, efficient manner in accordance to local, state and federal laws; Golf Course Best Management Practices for the state of Florida should be followed for all product applications.
- Maintain approved product inventory, to include purchasing, of necessary turf care products.
- Maintain all required record-keeping of turf care products applied to the golf course and clubhouse properties.
- Maintain cleanliness of facilities and equipment, including IPM facility and mix/load facilities.
- Identification and proper treatment of turf pests including weeds, insects, diseases.
- Follow directives from Asst. Superintendent and/or Golf Course Superintendent on all IPM-related procedures.
- Manage and execute the proper operation and calibration of product sprayers, spreaders and affiliated equipment.
- Perform golf course maintenance and/or landscaping tasks as assigned.
- Supervise and direct Greens and Grounds staff as needed, and in the absence of Golf Course Superintendent and Asst. Superintendent.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Two-year degree in Turfgrass Management or completion of related certificate program, preferred.
- Minimum 1 years of experience in similar role, including direct supervisory experience of a crew.
- Irrigation maintenance, troubleshooting and repair experience is a plus.
- Must be familiar with South Florida flora and fauna with awareness and sensitivity toward environmental concerns.
- Must possess Florida FDACS Commercial Ornamental and Turf License (or obtain within 6 months).
- An understanding of all needed products, applications methods, application timing and how applications affect or are affected by turf management practices and weather, is required.
- Knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in landscape and golf maintenance practices.
- Team-oriented leader who can be productive and supervise simultaneously.
- Must be self-motivated, must lead by example and have high attention to detail for maintenance practices.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems and efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to maintaining and promoting a safe work environment.
- Must be reliable and available to work a flexible work schedule, including weekends and overtime as needed.
- Valid Driver's License.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
- Able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
- Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling.
- Frequent repetitive motions.
- Continuous standing and walking.
- Must use personal protective equipment (PPE), such as a respirator, gloves, earplugs, eye guards/visors, boots and hat, when required.
