Job Description
The selected candidate will provide daily on-site technical support for a government agency. Will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Washington DC terminals of foreign Direct Communications Links (DCL). Will complete communications operations and procedures, coordinate with Executive Branch agencies, DoD agencies and other United States Government agencies and advise the executive senior level staff on hotline privacy communications and crisis communications procedures. Will develop and present briefings to foreign dignitaries, military officials and high-level delegations and serve on a team of translators for a rotating shift manning the hotline around the clock to provide rapid or time sensitive oral, sight and written translations of political communiques, military and other technical, scientific or general translations. Will catalog and maintain a continuing professional development program for all translators. Will also maintain current information on events through monitoring of domestic, international open-source and classified intelligence reports and materials and will oversee continuous circuit monitoring of multiple DCL intercontinental and satellite circuits. Serves as a back-up communications terminal operator for all DCL communications equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.
This position is located in Washington DC. There is no relocation assistance available for this position. Applicants must be currently residing in or state willingness to relocate self to Washington DC or surrounding areas.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
High school diploma and at least 8 years of related experience
Experience translating a variety of documents between English and Russian, including government documents, news articles and editorials, speeches, position papers, training materials, presentations, and technical and financial reports
Experience reviewing translations ensuring accuracy, completeness, correct grammar and spelling, consistency, proper formatting, and appropriate terminology
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to write and speak clearly and coherently in Russian and English
Skilled at writing target language (Russian)
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Ability to professionally interact with high level military officers and civilian officials on a daily basis
Ability to translate a variety of documents on sight
Familiarity with the Translation Industry Standards for Quality Translations
Familiarity with Computer Assisted Translation Tools, such as Translation Memory, Terminology Management Databases, and online dictionaries
Trainer / training experience
Positive service oriented attitude
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $86235 - $146638
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
