Responsible for the preparation of corporate and business unit financial statements, corporate projections, self-insured liability schedules, and bank reconciliations. The position involves integral and extensive involvement in internal and external audit processes in support of SEC and GAAP guidelines. Drafts portions of the SEC filing statements (10-Q’s and 10-K), using Workiva software. Position requires direct contact with senior management on a regular basis, including responding to CFO requests for data analysis
Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal and external users in compliance with SEC and GAAP reporting guidelines for company with $1 billion + annual revenue. Prepares monthly schedules and slides for senior management presentations. Distributes interim financial statements to the Board of Directors and senior management.
Drafts portions of the SEC filing statements (10-Qs and 10-K), using Workiva software. Reviews, edits, and ties out press releases, 10-Qs, 10-K, earnings conference call and investor presentation.
Performs frequent ad-hoc analysis and special projects for business units, senior management and Board of Directors, often with same-day turnaround required. Must be able to extract data from COGNOS Finance software.
Prepares and distributes financial projections and rolling forecasts. Coordinates forecast from budgets, business units, and senior management using COGNOS Contributor software.
Reconciles and analyzes the company’s self-insured liabilities schedules to the general ledger on a monthly basis. This includes but is not limited to medical, errors & omissions, workers comp, and auto liabilities. Coordinates reporting and research with legal, payroll, Risk Sciences Group, and benefits departments. Prepares and distributes monthly reports to senior management. Prepares and balances quarterly data summaries to external actuarial consultants.
Prepares certain account reconciliations and resolves related issues. Analyzes monthly variances in account activity and balances.
Prepares and updates documentation related to Sarbanes-Oxley controls over cash reconciliation, self-insured reserves, and financial reporting.
Prepares and approves monthly entries to the general ledger for divisions outside of the corporate general ledger system. Prepares monthly legal expense accruals, monthly tax provisions, branch deductible charges for self-insured liabilities, quarterly true-ups to self-insured liabilities and other entries.
Works with internal and external auditors throughout the audit process. This includes answering inquiries in a timely manner and timely preparation of all schedules and reports requested by the auditors.
Prepares supporting schedules for the 10-Q and 10-K tie-out binder, used as documentation to support information provided in SEC filings.
Directly supervises accounting staff responsible for cash reconciliations and prepaid processes.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a directly related field.
CPA or CPA candidate preferred, but not required.
A minimum of six (6) years of experience in financial reporting in a public or corporate accounting environment or three (3) years in public accounting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong knowledge in the fields of accounting and finance.
Knowledge of Crawford general ledger and reporting systems (COGNOS applications, PeopleSoft) desired.
Knowledge of Crawford loss reporting systems (RSG, SISDAT, RiskTech, Loss Fund Management System) desired.
Ability to use Workiva, or alternative SEC reporting, software.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for dealing with all levels of internal and external contacts.
Excellent time management skills and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Strong analytical ability and judgment in order to read and interpret financial data.
Strong computer skills.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational ability.
Ability to work on own or as part of a team, depending on circumstances.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
