Summary of Position
The primary responsibility of the Outside Sales Representative is to target new customer accounts within the Waco, Temple, and Killeen +40 miles market area. Our typical customers are General Contractors and Sub-Contractors that manage projects ranging in size from personal driveway installations and up to full-scale wind/solar farm builds, stadium constructions, hospital demolitions, etc. As part of our sales team, and as a representative of Twisted Nail, the Outside Sales Representative will be expected to uphold our core company values, uplift and support all team members, and will help drive the growth of the organization. Our ideal candidate will be self-sufficient, adaptable, internally driven, and will be an excellent communicator with a proven track record of building a recurring customer base.
Pay and Benefits
- Total Compensation: $45,000 - $85,000+
- Base Pay: $45,000-$75,000; new employees start as 100% base until second year in role
- Health Insurance: $437.50 monthly via a QSEHRA
- Vehicle Stipend and Company Fuel Card
- 2 weeks paid vacation after 3 months, 3 weeks after 1 year
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop ongoing relationships with local general contractors, sub-contractors, and quarries
- Source projects that require our aggregate trucking services
- Source aggregate (sand, rock, dirt) and disposal solutions for contractors and their projects
- Manage established customers and contracts to ensure all customer requests are being met
- Clear and consistent communication with dispatch to communicate jobsite needs
- Locate aggregate quarries and develop lasting vendor relationships
Essential Functions
- Identify, initiate, and influence potential customers in a manner that is consistent with company core values while meeting established sales goals
- Respond to specific customer needs with exceptional customer service
- Handle high stress customer encounters
- Create and submit sales reports/documentation on an established basis and as requested
- Contribute to the development and oversight of sales forecasts within the assigned territory
- Complete special assignments as requested by the Regional Sales Manager to meet the changing needs of the company
- Travel throughout the market area; Regional travel required >4 days per week
- Adhere to all applicable safety policies and complies with all company policies and standards
Work Hours and Travel Requirements
- Estimated 40-55 hours per week; on-call for customer accounts including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends on an as needed basis
- We do not work on most major Bank Holidays, subject to our customers schedules
- Schedule flexibility subject to job performance and within general constraints set by Regional Manager
- Extensive driving required; no overnight travel required
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability Requirements
- Proficient in MS Office Word, Excel, and Google Suite
- Experience within CRM systems
- Excellent selling, negotiating, and closing skills with the ability to build long-term business relationships
- Utilizes logic and reasoning abilities to solve custom problems in a high pressure, fast-paced, environment
- Unshakable commitment to communication, both internally and externally
- Natural de-escalation ability while maintaining excellent customer service in tense situations
- Ability to self-supervise, multi-task, and manage multiple goals simultaneously
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations such as percentages, fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division quickly and accurately
- Ability to work both independently and within a team
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret contracts, job requirements, and customer reports
- Valid Drivers License with a clean driving record
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability Preferences
- Bilingual English and Spanish
- Knowledge of the trucking industry
- Knowledge of quarries and the general aggregate industry
- 3+ years of outside sales experience

- The position involves extended periods in a stationary position, both in office and in vehicle; additionally, the position requires navigating on unstable terrain within quarries and on jobsites

Work Environment
- This job is primarily performed on the road and from a mobile or remote office, with limited environmental control, while operating a computer, requiring manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
