We are looking for someone with hands on experience in data mining, developing quantitative models, and great communication skills. In this role, you will be part of our data and analytics team, and help us apply best-in-class techniques from generating business intelligence to predictive models and automated decision making, all focused on creating a nationally recognized client experiencing and helping Light the Way to Financial Well Being for our customers and clients.

Analysts on the team work on innovative projects in partnership with the Wholesale Segment, which includes Commercial Banking, Commercial Real Estate, Treasury & Payment Services, as well as Corporate & Investment Banking. Analysts leverage their business, technical and statistical knowledge to deliver actionable and implementable insights with our business partners. Once projects are implemented they will continue to work closely with our business partners to assess the project’s impact across several dimensions including client satisfaction, revenue generation, and expense savings.

What you will accomplish in this role:
Translate business opportunities into data science problems and define the right project scope and performance metric to measure success.
Utilize internal and external data to drive decision-making and identify opportunities.
Perform sophisticated data analytics (encompassing data mining, inferential statistical analysis, and predictive analytics, for example).
Identify actionable insights from various (or multiple) sources of data that measurably improve business outcomes or reduce business risk.
See & measure how your contributions make a material impact SunTrust’s bottom line.
Identify techniques and tools that would help our data & analytics teams accelerate speed to value for specific use cases or strategic priorities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Finance, Economics, Statistics, or Engineering and two years of work experience in quantitative analysis, or an equivalent combination of degree and experience. Strong quantitative, finance and statistical background including extensive background in use of software to support quantitative analysis. Demonstrates a high level of technical knowledge and may have developed expertise in specialty areas. Demonstrated technical proficiency related to the position, including one of more of the following: Probability and Statistics; Finance (time value of money, yield curve); Programming skills (Visual Basic, C++, and/or Java).

Thorough understanding of data science and data manipulation techniques. Creative thinking and hunger for learning. Ability to break down complex data mining techniques in simple fashion to facilitate learning and understanding to multiple stakeholders including line of business partners. Strong ability to interpret analytical results and transform into an executive ready deliverable. Strong quantitative, finance and statistical background. Equally comfortable presenting to a non-technical marketer or a statistician. Ability to juggle multiple projects & clients at a time. Demonstrated technical proficiency with R or Python while working on projects to Probability and Statistics, Finance (financial ratios, interest rates, yield curve), or data mining. Hands-on experience working with large databases and deep understanding of one or many of the following: Decision trees, Linear and Nonlinear regressions, neural nets, ensembles, Market Basket analysis, Time series forecasting, deep learning, text mining and various model assessment & performance metrics. A proven history of driving critical research and development through modeling and machine-learning methods in developing predictive models as well as methods for building in-depth analytical understanding of systems. May oversee or assist less experienced analysts.

  • Experience
2 – 5 years’ experience working in a big data environment in a data & analytics role, developing statistics models and machine learning models. Graduate degree in Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Decision Sciences, Marketing Research or similar field. Experience in a R&D role or Innovation Lab with proven measurement a plus.
