Responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of donors and prospective donors for estate and other planned gifts ($50,000 and above) which will benefit Nicklaus Children's Health System and Foundation.
Minimum Job Requirements
3-5 years experience as a planned giving officer in a non-profit organization
Experience related to all charitable gift planning vehicles
Strategic, policy, and budget planning experience required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field preferred.
Ability to solicit and cultivate major/planned gifts at the $50,000 level and above with a proven track record of closing gifts.
Good professional judgment and decisiveness to inspire confidence among prospects and donors.
Strong Communication skills (written, oral, and listening).
Strong track record of good relationship management with donors and colleagues.
Available to work evenings and weekends (on-call-24 hours) and able to travel.
Strong planning, time management, and organizational skills
Ability to manage complex responsibilities and make sound judgment.
Familiarity with donor database applications and working knowledge of planned giving software to prepare calculations, analyses, and illustrations for prospective donors.
Ability to plan and execute fundraising activities.
Knowledge of all charitable gift planning vehicles, including how to determine the appropriate vehicles for specific prospects.
Ability to gauge when the donor would be open to a blended gift comprised of a major gift and a planned gift to maximize the potential of the donor to give to the Health System and the Foundation.
Affinity with the overall mission of Nicklaus Children's Health System and Foundation.
Demonstrate initiative, attitude, and personally to work effectively with colleagues, physicians, caregivers, staff, volunteers, and constituents.
Comfortable with public speaking.
Ability to be an ambassador for the Health System and Foundation in the community.
Job Specific Duties
Identify, qualify, and solicit planned giving prospects by matching Foundation's fundraising priorities with prospective donors' interest.
Work with the Senior Director to assist in the development and management of a proactive planned giving marketing program.
Manage a portfolio of approximately 100-150 planned and major giving prospects; develop written solicitation strategies and proposals; purposefully guide them to make major investments in Health System. Develop relationships to maximize their giving potential over time.
Maintain a regular schedule of visitations to individuals, corporations, and other entities with a minimum of 15-20 face-to-face contacts per month. Make an assigned number of discovery/prospecting calls to potential donors to determine the capacity and the propensity for giving.
Solicit a minimum of 2 major/planned gifts per month and close a sufficient number to attain the stated goals for each year.
Work with planned giving prospects' advisors to facilitate the use of planned giving vehicles appropriate for each prospective donor and provide the same level of instruction to fellow gift officers.
Work with Senior Director to expand the pool of trust and estate planning attorneys, wealth managers, CCPAs, and financial planners with whom the Foundation works to broaden the donor prospect pool.
Responsible for good understanding of investments and tax law as it applies to planned gifts.
Work in concert with Senior Director and Executive Director to solicit leadership gifts and populate Walters Legacy Society.
Coordinate cultivation activities and solicitations with Foundation colleagues, Health System staff and volunteers
Maintain proficiency in charitable giving methods and competency in using planned giving software to prepare calculations, analyses, and illustrations for planned giving prospects and their advisors; provide training for Development staff on planned giving vehicles, etc.
Provide timely written reports regarding outcome of cultivation and solicitation activities.
Provide continuous updating of Raises Edge database with actions, moves management, etc.
Participate in prospect management meetings to ensure coordination of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
Collaborate with major gift and annual giving staff regarding planned giving activities and program.
Assist in developing and implementing strategic plans for the Foundation's Development Department.
Collaborate with various Foundation departments to steward, upgrade, and solicit annual giving donors with potential for major/planned gifts.
Attend NCHS events as well as outside events as Foundation representation for networking purposes, etc.
Secure membership in local planned giving associations.
