As the junior member of a four-person business development team in our Long Beach office, you will support the business development needs of SCS’s Southwestern Profit Center. SCS’s corporate headquarters and Long Beach office are in the same building near Long Beach Airport. Approximately 50% of your time will be spent writing and managing proposal submissions and approximately 50% of your time will be spent on a variety of marketing and administrative tasks. This position was created in 2016 due to the business development team’s successful win rate and a heavy volume of work. We are looking for a self-starter with a desire to develop a career with SCS.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Write proposals. Coordinates content development with an assigned staff professional, shares writing duties, submits high-quality proposals on-time.
Develop and update marketing materials (brochures, project examples, resumes, etc.).
Support the Business Development Manager as needed (prepare for meetings/conference calls/open houses; assist with Press Releases; maintain Excel spreadsheets and internal content files: images, resumes, tables, client evaluations, etc.).
Schedule and maintain the marketing calendar for presentations and events.
Make arrangements and payments for registration at various events, reserve exhibit booths, manage promotional materials supplies.
Learn about the work SCS does and the industries SCS supports (self-education).
Other business development and marketing duties as assigned.
Training will be provided.
Bachelor’s degree in English preferred but Bachelor’s in Communications/Marketing will be considered. A Certificate in Technical Writing/Communication will also be considered.
Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience as a proposal writer or marketing coordinator required.
Intermediate-level ability with MS Word and PowerPoint, basic-level ability with MS Excel and Outlook.
Intermediate-level knowledge of computers and navigating corporate databases and the internet to find content.
Project management ability —ability to secure content from busy/unresponsive colleagues and meet project milestones/deadlines, without sacrificing quality.
Experience with trade shows and conferences (managing shipping logistics, “booth duty”, etc.) preferred.
Strong attention to detail, time management, and organization ability.
