The Project Manager in Brown’s Office of University Communications (OUC) works at the center of the University’s central marketing, web and design teams to spearhead the delivery of strategic communication and marketing projects. The Project Manager also partners directly with campus units on marketing communication efforts that sustain and build the University’s global reputation.
Reporting to the Director of Client Relations, the Project Manager assists with identifying client needs, developing project schedules, managing workflows, tracking tasks and project deliverables and generally stewarding projects through the development/production process. The Project Manager leverages OUC project management systems and communication tools offered to facilitate this work.
The Project Manager will develop a comprehensive knowledge of Brown and communicate in a professional manner with University stakeholders, audiences and partners at all levels and across disciplines. The Project Manager is an enthusiastic problem solver who possesses an understanding of web and digital, video, photography and print projects.
Manages multi-channel projects to completion in collaboration with an integrated team of more than 40 marketing and communications professionals and delivers superior customer service to Office of University Communications clients.
Schedules kickoff meetings, drafts project briefs, and develops cross-functional timelines.
Manages daily project tasks in Brown’s project management systems, including opening and closing projects and adjusting deadlines as needed.
Oversees the review and approval processes for multiple campus constituents with tact and diplomacy.
Communicates timelines and deliverables, manages feedback, gathers data and budget information, and resolves client issues, upholding the standard of excellence for client relations, responsiveness and communication, and best practices in project management.
Informs management of critical issues and assists in their resolution as required.
Works closely with the web and digital team to manage web workflow and ensure web and digital projects are completed on time and within budget.
Manages project scope and proactively identifies dependencies and risks.
Provides excellent customer service to all clients, encouraging timely and accurate online content development.
Assists with managing multiple priority projects; develops individual project plans; presents regular status reports
Regularly reports engagement metrics, where applicable.
Assists in the maintenance of multi-channel metrics dashboards that include email, social media, video, and web engagement.
Reports metrics, as appropriate, at project launch and completion and assists in the maintenance of quarterly and annual dashboards to inform future strategy and planning.
Attends relevant meetings and keeps current on best practices and trends through professional development opportunities.
Participates in training opportunities for marketing, web and digital communication, web accessibility, project management techniques, Google Analytics and SEO to stay current in a rapidly changing field.
Engages with industry peers to stay abreast of marketing and communications trends.
Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent work experience required
Two years in a project management, client relations or digital communications role required
Experience managing web and digital projects
Experience with project management software
Experience working in a creative environment
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Positive, customer service-oriented team player
Proven proficiency in managing multiple projects with competing deadlines in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
Knowledge of web, digital and print marketing services and offerings
Broad interest in and understanding of higher education issues
The Project Manager plays a critical role in helping to integrate the workflows and processes of the entire staff within the Office of University Communications.
