About the Position: This position is located at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital in the Directorate for Behavioral Health, Department of Traumatic Brain Injury/Intrepid Spirit Center. The incumbent will work in an outpatient clinic that is focused on the evaluation and treatment of Warriors and other eligible beneficiaries with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Psychological Health diagnoses.
Position is being filled using EHA - Critical Need Health Care Occupations.
Perform anthropometric measurements as needed to assess a patient?s nutritional status.
Design specific diets to improve brain function in TBI patients.
Design anti-inflammatory diets for patients.
Integrate emerging science of brain health nutrition with diet planning.
Improve cognitive function through diet and nutrition.
Provide medical nutrition therapy to patients.
Oversee the medical nutrition therapy of all adult patients.
Perform general outpatient nutrition care as needed.
Perform nutrient analysis of dietary intake and compare estimated requirements specific for the clinical condition.
Design and recommend specific feeding regimens.
Counsel patients and families on dietary plans.
Provide consultant service regarding nutrition support products, policies, procedures, and research.
Conduct ongoing quality management, performance improvement, and administrative duties.
Direct medical students, resident, fellows, dietetic interns, and pediatric dietitians in clinical experiences.

This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
This position has been designated ?Mission Essential?. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Basic Requirements for Dietitian:
Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in the field of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science in an educational program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA)) for the dietitians or nutritionists.
Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).
Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0630 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below.
Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal Service which includes assessing patient's nutritional status; designing specific brain health diets for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) patients; providing medical nutrition therapy; and providing nutrition education and training patients and/or family members.
License: An active, current registration as a Dietitian through the Committee on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
