Summary
TranSystems is hiring an entry level Structural Engineer for Schaumburg or Chicago. The ideal candidate will have experience in bridge design, and an interest in learning and working on diverse project assignments which may include highway bridges, freight and passenger rail structures, and miscellaneous structural assignments. A person whom is willing to travel to work in other offices is required. The proposed candidate will be expected to learn and work and model structures using engineering requirements such as AASHTO LRFD and/or AREMA. The individual may also be called on to work closely with other teams on multi-disciplinary projects. The engineer will have the opportunity to work on challenging projects in a unique and dynamic work environment.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited program
Ability to obtain Fundamentals of Engineering registration within 1 year

Preferred Qualifications:
December 2018 graduate
EIT
Previous internship experience in roadway, bridge, drainage, construction inspection and/or lighting
Experience with Illinois State Toll Highway Authority, Illinois DOT, Chicago DOT, local municipalities, Metra, Class I railroads, or on other Federally-funded projects
Geopak and/or Microstation working knowledge
No relocation or stipend assistance

General Duties & Responsibilities include the following.

Analyzes information and data to perform routine design tasks.
Prepares structural design and plan preparation of structural drawings.
Reviews project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements, and related specifications. Assures the project meets quality control and quality assurance guidelines.
Research design options and document findings.
Responsible as a member of the design them for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and manpower, resolving engineering design problems.
Keeps Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Assist or participate in preparation of business proposals.
May be asked to participate in non-design engineering activities such as construction inspection and materials testing, surveying, CADD production, and field data collection.
Other duties may be assigned.

Work Environment:

The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
