The Managing Connections Director, Social is responsible for crafting and delivering the vision for the VMLY&R U.S. social practice and has full responsibility for the health and performance of the VMLY&R social practice across the United States. The Managing Director is also responsible for providing strategic guidance on a variety of client initiatives to nurture and grow the business.
Develop, document and lead the strategic direction of the VMLY&R social practice
Manage the structure and development of the VMLY&R social team, ensuring that they’re poised for success in an ever-changing media landscape
Define, document and enforce the scalable, repeatable processes and deliverables that will ensure excellence in social strategy, execution, optimization and community engagement
Work closely with the VMLY&R media practice to determine how to execute best in class paid social media (currently part of the media practice)
Inspire and foster a culture of excellence and collaboration that attracts and retains top social talent
Directly manage the office leaders of the VMLY&R social practice across the U.S., including regular performance feedback and goal-setting
Participate in VMLY&R global social conversations and work closely with global social resources to establish and enforce global social best practices
Ensure the profitability and growth of the social practice as an integrated part of the overall VMLY&R agency offering
Continually assess the tools and resources used by the VMLY&R social team and make recommendations that keep the practice in top performance and financially sound
Stay abreast of industry developments, trends and technological advances in the social space to ensure the agency stays competitive and ahead of competition
Serve as the client liaison for our largest and highest priority social clients
Represent VMLY&R social in new business pitches
Support/provide strategic direction related to client and project challenges; serve as the point of escalation for social-related issues on client business
Interview and make recommendations to hire at the Director levels and above as well as oversee resources acquisition for all levels junior
Lead thought leadership through internal and external publishing and presentations
Support the VML core values in all efforts

Required Skills & Experience
10+ years of agency connections/communications strategy experience, preferably at an integrated (creative + media) agency.
5+ years leading social strategy for major clients (ideally including global clients)
