Position Summary:
The Director of Sales - Retail will be responsible for growing Volpi?s Branded business within existing channels and expand the portfolio to new customers through sales management engagement. Director will be accountable for the development and execution of long term strategic channel plans, joint business & account planning and total Volpi strategic sales. Director for will lead a sales team that supports a specific customer or group of customers and will own the development and cultivation of cross functional, senior leadership relationships with the customer.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Develop and manage sales representatives in training, coaching and general sales management
Accountable for developing a strong financial plan that delivers top and bottom line growth
Own volume budget goals and development of strategic channel plan
Develop sales & profit generating trade programs across the total Represent, protect and grow the Volpi Brand on a national level
Develop and manage collaborative strategic partnerships and account planning
Manage corporate broker relationships
Build market position by locating, developing, defining, negotiating, and closing business relationships
Develop and implement customized sales and national marketing programs to reach company sales goals; required to make presentations on solutions and services that meet or predict Volpi clients? needs
Understand the target markets, including industry, company, company contacts and which market strategies can be used to attract clients
Follow the latest industry developments, publications, and announcements; stay up-to-date on corporate competitors
Screen potential business deals by analyzing market strategies, deal requirements, sales potential, and financials
Identify market trends; utilize this data and analysis in the development of marketing strategies
Set-up business reviews and yearly joint business plan meetings with key customers
Connect other department and team members to create a differentiated customer experience that drives value added growth
Create and maintain an environment of partnership and collaboration with distributors, vendors and other stakeholders
Collaborate with other departments and sales team to drive alignment, strategies and growth opportunities
Champion the voice of customer internally to align customer initiatives and strategies with Volpi
Complete other duties as assigned

Candidate Qualifications:
Bachelor?s Degree in Business or Marketing required
Five (5) + years of experience in managing a sales team with experience in coaching and training development
Seven (7) + years of work experience in sales, business development or strategic customer development roles in the Retail industry
In-depth knowledge of the Food industry including key customers/stakeholders; competitors; retail distribution; and understanding of the food cost dynamic
Experience managing a portfolio of products ranging from basic staple commodities to specialty value-added
History of contact negotiations and successfully closing business deals
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with customers, senior management, peers, and subordinates.
Superior strategic and tactical business skills
Demonstrated problem solving ability and negotiation skills
Experience using quantitative & qualitative research data
Skill in prioritizing and triaging obligations, handling pressure and meeting deadlines.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and statistical analysis and sales tracking software
Excellent time management and organization with attention to detail
Travel required up to 50%
