As our current Executive Artistic Director will be moving into the role of Artistic Director in 2019, we are seeking a part-time Executive Director (increasing to full-time) to lead MCP into the next stage of growth and development as we expand significantly in the next few years. You will work in partnership with the Creative Director, report to the Board of Directors, and effectively steer the direction of the organization.

Your main areas of focus in this position include:

  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to execute the Medical Clown Project vision, set overall goals and priorities, how they will be measured & evaluated, and ensure the organization has adequate resources and support to implement this vision


  • Quickly develop and maintain strong relationships with current healthcare partners Laguna Honda, CPMC, SF Campus for Jewish Living, and Elder Care Alliance;
  • Research potential partners and create new Bay Area-based partnerships in healthcare (Hospitals, Memory Care centers, Senior housing and services, Disaster relief, Medical schools);
  • Develop a Sales & Marketing Kit
  • Grow MCP’s revenue stream by selling MCP services to new partners/venues


  • Lead efforts to raise the annual operating budget and build strategic partnerships to support MCP’s objectives;
  • Drive Donor Outreach and Cultivation (lunch meetings, phone calls, connecting with donors, sending Thank You cards)
  • Develop a donor packet
  • Manage and grow donor database
  • Explore the possibility of grant research and writing
  • Driving online fundraisers for #GivingTuesday and through social media platforms

A successful first year in this role would include

  • Leading strategic planning among the Board and key stakeholders to develop an organizational roadmap that allows Medical Clown Project to best reach its key constituents and stakeholders.
  • Increasing the current 4 medical clown shifts/week to 10 shifts per week
  • Raising grant/donor funding from the current $30k/year level to $100k/year

You are:

  • Flexible & adaptable and comfortable working in a less structured environment
  • A level-headed leader & relationship builder who has experience quickly gaining the confidence of and building trust with a Board, staff, funders, program partners, and broader community leaders;
  • Dynamic and versatile, able to engage a variety of stakeholders in dialogue and speak in a clear, compelling and authentic manner both about the Medical Clown Project’s goals and priorities and plans towards meeting them
  • An experienced fundraiser with a track-record of meeting (or surpassing) ambitious fundraising goals over a sustained period, including comfort engaging with high-net worth individuals to close $15K+ gifts;
  • A financial manager who is able to ensure the budget health and sustainability of MCP programs by making sound financial decisions and ensuring revenue exceeds expenses at all times;
  • Someone who works autonomously, takes ownership of all decisions (and can explain them confidently), and effectively executes on and assesses strategies proposed from the board
  • Depending on which direction we go, we will might need someone with a proven track record in sales/selling services
  • Familiarity with the healthcare industry, preferably in California
