Job Title: Lead Gardener
FLSA Classification: Nonexempt (Hourly)
Salary Range: $20.00- $30.00, per hour
Reports to: General Manager
Job Description
Summary/objective: Oversees and coordinates the gardening/landscaping staff. Is responsible for managing all areas of landscaping and gardening needs throughout the resort. This includes maintaining landscapes, order/purchasing, producing and maintain budget allocations for gardens. Assisting and coordinating holiday decorations as determined by general manager and ownership.

Duties:
- Maintain and grow the garden to ensure it meets specific requirements and expectations.

Ensures basic maintenance such as cutting the grass, emptying bins, watering, managing weed control and leaf raking is performed on an as needed basis

Plant and nurture new trees, flowers, and various plants.

Conduct tours and educational sessions for Resort Guests as appropriate.

Facilitate the care and service of all garden equipment and machinery.

Maintain a clean garden by clearing rubbish and litter from the garden and grounds.

Provide guidance to management on matters related to the garden.

Plan, plant and rotate annuals through the green house

Ensure a safe environment for staff and clients by adhering tosafety and health regulations.

Snow removal efforts may be overseen and/or assisted with.

Does a variety of job-related duties as assigned.

Greet each guest, enthusiastically and with a smile to create a friendly positive experience.

Prunes annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees using the appropriate techniques according to the plant.

Sets scheduling of irrigation time clocks for a water-efficient irrigation schedule.

Implements landscape improvement/renovation projects using appropriate plants and landscape materials.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Assist General Manager with implementing programs and concepts to support gardens and landscaping initiatives.

Assists with planning and implementing improvements and expansions.

Establishes job priorities and time frames
- Institute training to ensure staff have all the requisite skills.

Develop and implement procedures to ensure all landscaping and gardening needs are met within budget and determined goals.

Supervisors evaluate each worker's performance to ensure quality operations.
- Investigate accidents and prepare relevant reports.
Working Conditions:

Working conditions are based in a hospitality setting.

Associates may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.

Noise level in work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud.

Frequent exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Education and Years of Experience:

High School Degree or GED required

One year gardening and groundskeeping duties.

Experience maintaining large grounds preferred.
Requirements:

Able to operate a variety of gas powered equipment.

Be familiar with all Hotel services/features and local attractions/activities to respond to guest inquiries accurately.
