UI Developers combine both design sensibilities and technical skills together. They are skilled at making something both look good and function in a browser/device at the same time. They have the production skills to be able to produce visual designs in Photoshop (or Sketch) and then turn them in to HTML code that deals with the wonders of browser compatibilities. This requires in-depth understanding of how browser rendering engines behave to be able to implement a design for the web that renders correctly line up pixels perfectly. This role is a primarily development position that would focus on translating our visual designs (created both internally and externally) into code, with an emphasis on a design eye towards authoring HTML and CSS. 1. Create Web application front end as per design comps and information architecture 2. Integrate front-end application with the application business layer 3. Follow best practices and standards for accessibility and cross-browser compatibility 4. Collect feedback from design and technical staff on Website development needs 5. Understand executing accessibility and progressive enhancement presentation 6. Abide by established coding standards and procedures individually and in teams 7. Add to engineering/development teams’ culture of high quality code 8. Create conceptual diagrams, visual mock-ups, and manage detailed user interface specifications 9. Conduct usability testing to resolve interface problems 10. Engage in requirement specification process for new software functionality 11. Ensure design consistency with client’s development standards and guidelines 12. Design and build UIs on any server platform in a team environment 13. Plan, estimate and scope development work and collaborate with project managers to track tasks as needed 14. Carries out complex activities with significant financial, client, and/or internal business impact
BS/MS in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, or Bachelor's degree in Web Development and/or Graphic Design is preferred. 4+ years of experience in front-end development, including developing HTML, CSS, and JavaScript adhering to creative design specs along with experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process is required. Demonstrable UI design skills with a strong portfolio Up-to-date with the latest UI trends, techniques, and technologies Solid experience in creating wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and site maps Proficiency in Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, or other visual design and wire-framing tools Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for rapid prototyping Excellent visual design skills with sensitivity to user-system interaction Experience with JQuery and other JavaScript frameworks such as React and Angular Experience with responsive layouts, CSS grid frameworks and CSS preprocessors, like SASS Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively
