Property Accountant

Facilitate all aspects of accounting for apartment communities including processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliation of general ledger accounts, bank reconciliations, preparation of monthly financial statements, preparation of balance sheet reconciliations and schedules for property tax and insurance. Ensures compliance with company policies, contractual obligations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Review invoices entered by community managers for account coding, vendor and amount accuracy, review for proper approvals Prepare batches for review and approval by Accounting Manager. Handle inquiries regarding payments and open invoices from vendors and managers
Maintain the general ledger for each property assigned, including monthly close, reconcile balance sheet accounts in Yardi and prepare journal entries
Prepare financial statements every month and circulate
Review monthly variance analysis prepared by Community Managers for accuracy and reasonableness
Maintain depreciation, amortization, prepaid, and other necessary ancillary schedules for properties
Prepare and submit replacement reserve reimbursement requests, if required
Prepare and submit quarterly use tax returns and review use tax returns prepared by others, if required
Prepare quarterly financial statements and send to lenders
Prepare trial balances for annual tax returns including reviewing fixed asset purchases and properly classifying for tax purposes
Set up wires and ACH's in banking system, make book transfers as needed
Review monthly forecast for accuracy and reasonable response

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting from a four-year college or university plus 1-2 years' experience preferred
1-year experience with Yardi or other property management software a plus
Prior to employment pass criminal background screening
