This position is responsible for receiving, unpacking, arranging and storing incoming products for sale in the store, as well as working as a Customer Service Representative as needed.
Warehousing:
- Participate in freight handling process, including unloading, checking in and distributing incoming products for placement on store shelves.
- Inspect products for defects and damages and report issues or discrepancies per store procedures.
- Maintain in-stock and presentable condition of assigned areas (i.e., down stocking and front facing products).
- Comply with all safety guidelines for product handling.
- Comply with inventory control procedures.
- Organize and maintain cleanliness of storage container and warehouse space.
- Assemble merchandise.
- Contribute ideas to improve or optimize warehousing procedures.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Customer Service Excellence (as needed):
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent sales service.
- Assess customers needs and provide assistance and information on product features.
- Welcome customers to the store and answer their questions.
- Actively seek out customers in the store and offer assistance.
- Process POS (point of sale) transactions.
- Remain knowledgeable on partner brands, products offered and discuss available options.
- Team up with co-workers to ensure proper customer service.
- Build productive trust relationships with customers.
- Suggest ways to improve sales (e.g. marketing activities, changing the store’s design).
- Perform janitorial duties.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of small animals, including mice, rats and small reptiles.
- Complete all documentation associated with any of the above job duties.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous pet retail experience is desired.
- Strong multitasking skills.
- Solid communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Passion for pets and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
Working conditions
- Working environment is favorable, generally working inside with moderate noise.
- Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as needed.
Physical requirements
- This position is non-sedentary.
- Being visible, accessible to and communicate with customers throughout the store is essential.
- Ability to move and transfer merchandise, weighing up to 50 pounds, throughout the store.
- Ability to lift or reach merchandise overhead.
- Ability to frequently stand, kneel, twist, crouch, squat, bend, stoop, and climb ladders.
- Ability to move throughout the store for an entire shift.
- Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary for warehouse duties (e.g. forklift, pallet jack, dolly, handtruck).
- Ability to operate store equipment such as computer, cash register, and other store equipment.
- Ability to read, write, and count accurately to complete all documentation.
- Ability to utilize strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with team members and customers.
- Ability to process information through the point-of-sale system.
- Ability to handle and be in contact with small animals, including mice/rats and small reptiles.
