The Distribution Systems Administrator’s role is to monitor and operate the organization’s multiple warehouse management system platforms through implementation of best practices. This includes solutioning, installing, configuring, patching, upgrading, and maintaining the company’s investments in Warehouse Management System technologies and their peripherals, and other supporting and ancillary Distribution systems. This role has the responsibility for non-functional configuration, security configuration, tech stack monitoring, triage, peripheral connectivity, and support using enterprise tools for active monitoring of system health (this list is not intended to be inclusive, but rather represents some of the more commonly supported components). The role will participate in providing non-functional system metrics and KPI’s, overall system capacity planning, and DR and HA planning and implementation, as well as lend support to other enterprise teams for client configuration, Citrix, networking, and other services in use to deliver an end-to-end solution.
Tasks and responsibilities
Evaluates, installs, configures, deploys, and maintains applications, systems software, products, and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout the distribution enterprise. This includes the JDA WMS solution and its suite of softwares, Vocollect Voice, ProcessWeaver Shipping Information Gateway, and Pyramid Director Systems.
Coordinates design and deploy activities with the cloud technologies teams to ensure all new systems are built in, and all old systems are migrated to, the Azure Cloud Ecosystem.
Collaborates with all vested parties to develop the optimal solution and stand up initial environments, and support the transition through its SDLC from development to full scale production.
Proactively manages system resources in partnership with various enterprise teams to assure maximum system performance and appropriate additional capacity for peak periods and growth.
Collaborates with analysts, designers, and system owners in the testing of software programs and applications.
Creates and maintains detailed, up-to-date technical documentation in a team repository.
Collaborates with network administrators and software engineers to assist with design specs, program logic, and data conversions.
Collaborates with Enterprise Monitoring to provide sufficient monitoring and alerts for defined processing, SLAs, etc.
Works with Costco Infrastructure and Networking teams to provide support for both current and future solution landscapes.
Responsible for continued personal growth in the areas of technology, business knowledge, and upholding Costco’s security and governance policies.
Provides initial solutioning/support for attached peripheral: RF devices, voice devices, tablets, printers, etc.
Assists in other areas of the department and company as necessary.
Required skills, abilities, and certifications
General understanding of large enterprise system environments with Windows Server and Linux Servers.
Experience with installing and configuring applications on Linux or Windows Servers.
Strong focus on design, build, deployment, security, system hardening and securing services.
Experience with both Windows (2012 and 2016) and Linux Operating System (RHEL 6 and 7).
Experience with Oracle and SQL Server databases.
Experience with PERL, shell, and/or PowerShell scripting.
Must have excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
Must be able to operate independently with a high threshold for dealing with uncertainty, while simultaneously collaborating with various functional and technical teams.
Proficiency in troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
Must be able to work with limited supervision and exhibit a strong sense of urgency.
General knowledge of business systems environment.
Good understanding of corporate IT policies, procedures, standards and service level commitments.
Periodic off-hours work required, including weekends and holidays. 24 x 7 on-call support on a rotation, as necessary.
Participation in off-site design and rollout activities, as well as validations of solutions (including DR/HA tests).
Travel required to support multiple projects.
Recommended skills, abilities, and certifications
Experience with SAP EWM and JDA WMS systems.
Experience with Windows client technologies.
Understanding of middleware technologies and messaging systems.
At least one full cycle implementing a major software application.
Knowledge of enterprise-level applications, including ERP.
Experience with peripheral installation, configuration and triage.
Experience with cloud installations or migrations, preferably Azure.
Successful internal candidates will have spent one year or more on their current team.
