Extraction Technician
Job Description
The responsibilities of the Extraction Technician for Harbor Farmz will broadly embrace the key areas described below. Extraction technicians will work together with other extraction team members to maintain, clean, and optimize equipment within the lab space. Techs will be responsible for maintaining the production work flow involving: the preparing of cannabis material for extraction, the extraction of plant material, post procedural duties and the cleaning and servicing of equipment.
Duties/Authority:
· Processing of plant materials in accordance with state standards.
· Preparing for production by reviewing production schedule; studying and clarifying specifications; calculating requirements; assembling and weighing plant materials and supplies for extraction.
· Operating sophisticated extraction equipment; Processing concentrates and extracts
· Cleaning and maintaining extraction equipment and laboratory facility following current good manufacturing practices (cGMP), and standard operating procedures; complying with legal regulations; monitoring environment.
· Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment such as extraction vessels, heaters/chillers, ovens, balances, vacuum pumps, and other laboratory equipment.
· Follows SOP’s established by the Lab Director to maintain product quality.
· Works with extraction team to maintain backstock of expendables to maintain workflow. Maintains inventory included restocking extraction supplies; filtration media, screens, nitrogen, butane, and other various laboratory supplies.
· Performs routine maintenance on extraction equipment.
· Assists in packaging, cleaning, and other lab duties as needed to maintain workflow.
· Support other team members in meeting performance goals, engage in cross training and be a positive role model in the lab.
Responsibilities:
· Maintain a respectful and businesslike work environment; be responsible for maintaining a culture of security within the laboratory team and must be familiar with and remain vigilant to security concerns or breaches, immediately reports to designated person.
· Maintain an organized, clean and safe workplace. Check for and identify potential issues and Institute the proper corrective action plan.
· Maintain regulatory compliance with all state and local regulations.
· Prepare biomass for extraction.
· Load/unload and prepare extractors.
· Package and label extracts.
· Maintain hands-on, operational knowledge of equipment associated with extraction techniques and technologies.
· Maintain a good working relationship with Lab Director and Extraction Manager to ensure the safe uninterrupted operation of extraction equipment and maintain product flow.
· Utilizes proper and safe handling and disposal of harmful chemicals, substances, and hazardous wastes.
Qualifications:
· Experience with the following extractions and methodologies: hydrocarbon, ethanol extraction and distillation practices.
· Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to be part of a motivated team, meeting deadlines, and creating an amicable workspace.
· Good personal hygiene, physical aptitude and health necessary to perform manual labor tasks for the lab; ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
· Ability to think on your feet and use problem solving skills when the situation arises.
· Strong history of meeting performance goals, being accountable.
· The candidate must pass the state required background check and will have a high security clearance within the company.
· Must have reliable transportation.
Requirements
· At least 21 years of age.
· 1 Year Commercial Extraction Experience
· Demonstrated passion to serving the medical and adult-use cannabis community.
· Excellent communication
· Computer operating skills
· Must be able to pass a background check
· Must not have been convicted of any felony offense
· Medical marijuana and recreational marijuana product knowledge highly desirable
· Experience in a complex, fast-paced environment
· Desire to learn more about cannabis
· Organization and planning skills
· Strong operational skills
· Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
