The center is complete with production tidal basins, shrimp research tanks, an animal health laboratory and water quality and shrimp feed laboratories. trū® Shrimp continually studies its exclusive technologies and conducts contract research.

Job Summary

The Director of Purchasing will oversee the development and execution of strategies through strategic sourcing to significantly drive competitive cost advantage and deliver superior product quality companywide. This role will manage the process and is responsible for determining the categories to source, achieving savings, managing contract implementation and tracking impact.

The Director will also work closely with the Senior Director of Operation, the CTO, the CFO, and our construction and engineering partners to support the construction of the company’s first harbor (production facility) and galley (processing facility). Will serve as the Buyer for Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) materials.

This position will play an integral role in the development of company procurement policies and procedures and will play a key role in the successful implementation of the company’s ERP system (Aptean) which will be integrated with production and processing facilities to maximum efficiencies.

Responsibilities and Duties

Oversees the development and execution of strategies through the strategic sourcing process. Serves as primary champion and process leader for the strategic sourcing process (e.g. supply market analysis, total cost of ownership analysis, competitive negotiations, contracting) across the company’s corporate, R&D, production and processing facilities.
Oversees the process to select and manage suppliers. Based on the sourcing strategy, oversees the supplier selection and negotiation process. Establishes and maintains contractual and business relationships with senior management of key suppliers. Effectively communicates all contracts with each facility for implementation purposes, accordingly.
Works closely with Accounting and Finance to negotiate and establish supplier credit and terms.
Monitors strategy implementation. Works to ensure that sourcing strategies are implemented and that "Total Cost of Ownership" reductions are secured according to forecasts.
Participates as a member of the corporate management staff. Participates in the ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the staff, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc.
As the company grows and additional procurement personnel are needed, this position will direct and supervise procurement team employees' work activities and monitors work performance.

Qualifications and Skills

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field, or 7 years related work experience
Experience: 7 - 10 years of experience in the sourcing and product development of a broad range of commodities and services on a global basis. Background in Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) purchasing is a plus.
Travel: This position is based out of the Balaton, MN office. Requires some travel to production and processing sites. Some overnight stays can be expected. Due to travel requirements, a valid driver’s license is required.
Work Environment: Work takes place in an office setting and at production and processing facilities.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:
Positive and Professional attitude and Customer Service Oriented
Knowledge of purchasing, selling, scheduling, and production planning of perishable food products desired.
Strong working knowledge of USDA and FDA compliance requirements for food production.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.
Skilled negotiator. Demonstrated capacity to lead successful negotiations
Detail oriented and highly organized.
Effective analytic capacity and problem-solving skills
An excellent team-oriented approach is critical. Demonstrated capacity to work in a cross-functional team environment
ERP system in a manufacturing environment
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for Visa sponsorship now or in the future.
