This role requires someone who can easily move between the details of an HRIS/payroll system and benefits management to jumping in to help with recruiting to pivoting in order to counsel/coach staff and leaders alike. This role manages the Academy’s benefits, payroll, compliance and compensation programs. This requires in-depth knowledge of programs and policies and the ability to communicate information effectively and with ease to employees. By building trust and strong relationships across the organization, this role is also charged with acting as an internal business partner, providing coaching and counseling to staff on a broad array of HR topics. A champion of AAOS’ culture and values, this role collaborates and partners with their HR peers, employees and leaders, in support of the Academy’s strategic goals and people initiatives. This individual also supports the culture by assisting with the full life-cycle recruitment process.

Oversees all facets of payroll and benefits processing as well as the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) with a high focus on data integrity and accuracy. Manages the Payroll and Benefits Specialist by providing ongoing feedback and development. Works collaboratively with the Finance department and our HRIS partner to resolve roadblocks. Provides guidance to employees to ensure understanding of pay, benefit accruals, taxes, etc. Conducts or participates in activities related to wage and salary structure, employee benefits programs and services, and recommends changes to ensure competitiveness. Partners with the CHRO to plan, implement, communicate, maintain and administer all compensation and benefits programs to maintain the organization's objectives and competitive position in the marketplace. Responds to external salary surveys as necessary. Oversees all payroll processing and database management related to the annual review process. Works with retirement plan trustee on plan design, daily administration and maintenance.

Builds effective relationships across the organization and provides ongoing coaching in order to help resolve sensitive employee situations. Works proactively to identify risks before they become issues and takes appropriate actions to address and resolve concerns in conjunction with the CHRO. Trains and communicates policies and procedures to staff. Provide counsel and direction to staff at all levels around issues pertaining to employee relations, leadership development, conflict resolution, and litigation avoidance. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations when they arise, bringing recommendations to the Chief Human Resources Officer for resolution. Prepares well-documented written summaries of findings.

Supports CHRO by participating in programs related to effective onboarding, recommends changes to internal policies, practices and procedures in support of our strategic plan, always looks to learn what other organizations and industries are offering and makes suggested updates to our employee programs and offerings. Effectively communicates and administers human resources policies, programs and practices.

Monitors and ensures legal compliance and government reporting on programs including but not limited to FMLA, ADA, FLSA, worker’s compensation, equal opportunity employment, health and welfare benefits, and retirement plans. Manages compiling data for all HR audits, as well as data gathering and analysis for federal reporting related to health and welfare benefit plans. Files various reports with federal agencies to remain compliant (e.g., 5500 forms, EEO-1, Medicare compliance). Oversees maintenance of affirmative action logs and reports. Actively captures, analyzes and reports data on various HR metrics to identify and support business needs.

Supports the HR Specialist in recruiting and hiring outstanding talent to the Academy by assisting with the full life-cycle recruitment process as needed. This includes advertising, vetting resumes, interviewing, checking references, conducting background checks and negotiating offers.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
Undergraduate degree in a related discipline.
7-10 years of progressive human resources experience, including leadership roles combined with a hands-on, roll up your sleeves approach
Strong prior experience in payroll, benefits and compensation administration and oversight
Comprehensive understanding of health, life, retirement, and voluntary benefits. Strong knowledge of state and federal employment laws.
Savvy at building partnerships at all levels of the organization and must be viewed as a trusted advisor to the business. Possess a high EQ.

Excellent computer experience including but not limited to Word, strong Excel skills, Outlook and HRIS poweruser (syncHR a plus), comfortable with ad-hoc reporting.

Intrigued by data and finds it rewarding to review and analyze HR data/metrics to identify trends and recommend solutions to improve the employee experience and performance
