This position primarily exists to preserve and protect natural areas and habitat, enforce park rules and regulations, educate on public safety through contact and programming, supports and monitors emergency situations, and physically patrols/maintains trails, trailheads, restrooms, and facilities of the mountain parks, preserves and urban parks. Will communicate with department staff and first responders using a handheld devise during emergency situations. Patrols City property in a marked city vehicle, completes daily patrol logs, incidental reports and may perform general first aid and CPR. Incumbent will enforce park rules, regulations, and ordinances as required to include educating the public or issuing notices of violation and criminal citations in accordance with Phoenix City Codes. Park Rangers must be able to work outdoors with the ability to work in a variety of weather conditions and interact professionally and courteously with the public.

This recruitment may be used by the department for any current or future vacancies over the life of the eligible list. Currently, there are full-time and part-time vacancies throughout the Phoenix area in the Parks and Recreation Department.

$16.75 (minimum) - $24.91 (maximum) hourly $34,840 - $51,813 annually.

One year of full-time year-round experience as a park ranger, trail guide, security enforcement, military background, or corrections experience; OR one year of full-time year-round paraprofessional experience in natural resource management to include preservation management, trail planning and management, water management, biodiversity conservation and or environmental management.
Working irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings is required.
For part-time positions, must be able to work a minimum of 30 hours per week.
Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds may be required.
Must be able to walk long distances and over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.
Must be able to hike, mountain bike, and work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements for an extended period.
Individuals must be physically capable of operating vehicles safely, possess an appropriate valid Arizona driver's license, possess personal insurance coverage, and have an acceptable driving record.
Employment is contingent upon the employee meeting background checks and fingerprinting standards for positions that work with children.
An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered.

Must be able to use a computer for email communications, report writing, accessing training, and other uses as pertain to the job.
Formal education in natural resource management, recreation management, environmental science or a related field
Experience performing educational programs and enforcement duties
