SWFT Technical Writer Analyst
Our client has an ongoing 3-year contract to provide Operational and Maintenance support for the Secure Web Fingerprint Transmission (SWFT), a system owned by the DOD Defense Manpower Data Center. This includes work in the full software development lifecycle.
The SWFT team shall sustain and support the SWFT application in both the production and test environments. The SWFT team shall perform maintenance activities that include completing maintenance and enhancement releases to the application, technology refresh, technology insertion, technical obsolescence, risk management, resolution to identified security issues, and data correction requests. The SWFT team shall use the client’s process and procedures to complete all work.
Specifically for this solicitation, the support needed is for a technical writer/analyst with skills as noted in the Project Summary.
FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION OF CANDIDATE NEEDED:
This position is part of the functional requirements team working on a web-based software development project for the U.S. Department of Defense. Working independently or with other team members, the incumbent will update system and application documentation for each new release of the application in accordance with the client, program, and Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC) standards and procedures. Working with other team members, the technical writer will develop and manage documentation. The ability to multi-task, set priorities, manage time, and work both independently and as part of a team is essential.
Under general direction, create and update system and application documentation for each release such as the User Guide, the Installation Guide, the Test Plan, etc. Must be able to read the requirements documents to understand the system changes being implemented in order to update these system documents. Apply our client and DMDC standards and guidelines to documentation created in support of the project. Maintain document version control in accordance with requirements. Participate in document review sessions and edit documentation based on input received during the review sessions. Create and update work product review artifacts as required to reflect product edits identified during product review sessions. Ensure document content is complete, accurate, and consistent with our client, DMDC, and project standards before delivering the final product. Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Must be able to work in a team environment and independently with minimum management oversight. Must possess high energy and strong motivation to make a difference. The work is fast paced with changing priorities. Task switching without loss of productivity is a must.
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent; One - two years in technical writing and/or business analysis.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently; Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written forms; Demonstrated ability to work within deadlines and schedules; Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and workloads; Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn emerging technologies.
Current DoD Secret clearance
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Degree in English, Journalism or similar major
1 - 2 years technical/business writing experience
Proficiency using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and Excel
Excellent command of English syntax, grammar, punctuation and spelling
Must demonstrate a strong sense of self-motivation and direction
Must possess strong motivation to make a difference
Must be a team player
Familiarity with Department of Defense personnel security issues is a plus
