To get ready for the March 2021 grand opening of the new L.A. Lee YMCA & Mizell Community Center, the YMCA of South Florida is looking to hire an Aquatics Coordinator. The Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the highest level of safety and swimming conditions for all patrons in the pool, deck and surrounding areas; first, by preventing accidents and second, by responding to an emergency quickly and efficiently. In addition, this individual is responsible for preparing and administering departmental budget with the lead of the Aquatics Director, coordinating swim lessons, as well as developing new programs.
Located in the Historic Sistrunk community, the new L.A. Lee YMCA/Mizell Community Center will impact more than 18,000 people per year and include a preservation of the history of the community and previous L.A. Lee YMCA. The building will be 65,000 square feet, and of that, YMCA traditional programs will be run in about 25,000 square feet. The rest will be Broward College, retail space, community meeting space, and other features available to the community.

Supervise, lead and manage Aquatics Programs, Staff and Safety on the pool deck.
Ensures that enrollment and program quality benchmarks are met by marketing and promoting the Aquatics Program.
Ensures that the Aquatics program follows the program standards, policies, and guidelines of the YMCA of the USA as well as state and local codes.
Trains staff on accident prevention through safety checks, rule enforcement, and proper guarding techniques, and emergency management including proper water rescue, CPR and first aid procedures.
Prepares and controls the annual income and expenses for the budget in the Aquatics Department.
Coordinates schedules of participants for each season and class.
Ensures that Safety and Risk Management policy and procedures are followed; maintains accident reports, records of equipment and safety inspections.
Use preventive life guarding techniques to minimize or eliminate hazardous situations.
Applies rules and policies of the YMCA Lifeguard Manual.
Conveys information on programs and schedules to members.
Maintains accurate records required by YMCA and state agencies.
Maintains the pool and pool area; cleaning.
Maintains records of pool chemical readings, adding chemicals to poof is necessary. Takes pool attendance and maintains related records as required.
Supervises lifeguards during their shifts. Rotating guards, schedules breaks and determining hours when appropriate based on pool usage and the need for additional guards.
Other duties as assigned based on family center requirements or needs.
Avid swimmer, passionate about the sport of swimming, dedicated to the cause of water safety and drowning prevention.
High-energy personality, outgoing and enjoys working in a fast paced environment.
Natural leader with a competitive drive and desire to grow.
Comfortable with public speaking.
Innate desire to provide excellent customer service to participants, which will result in an exceptional aquatic experience.
Minimum of 1-3 years of Aquatics program / Lifeguarding experience.
Minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as Daxko software program, preferred.
Must be organized and detail oriented.
Bilingual, English and Spanish, a plus.
Must attend 2 hours of in-service per month during the off-season (October to April),
Must attend 4 hours of in-service per month during the season (May-September)
Certified Pool Operator and Swim Instructor Certified, preferred.
CPR for the Professional Rescuer; AED; Basic First Aid Certifications
Red Cross Lifeguarding OR YMCA Lifeguarding Certification
Attainment of Oxygen Certification within 90 days of hire. (Summer staff must receive before June 30)
Attainment of CPO Certification within one year of hire.
Ability to maintain certification level of physical and mental alertness
As a condition of employment, you will be required to submit to and satisfactorily clear a thorough Level II fingerprinting background screening.
