Summary of Internship
The Operations Internship position provides an opportunity for operations, supply chain, or engineering students to get hands-on experience contributing to a lean manufacturing site. The operations intern will contribute to process improvements on a complex life sciences instrumentation production line. The position starts in June, paid working 40 hours per week through August.
Proactively seek improvement opportunities with guidance from the manufacturing manager
Plan, initiate, and lead at least one Kaizen event
Contribute to the 5S program through visual management
Attend daily stand up tier meetings and train on the production line to better understand the manufacturing process
Accept candid feedback and look for areas of improvements
Specific tasks will be tailored to the operations intern’s experience level and abilities
Skills and Abilities
Ability to work independently and as a member of a cross-functional team
Willingness to learn, be mentored, and improve
Desire to contribute and improve design of new and existing scientific instrumentation products
Exceptional customer focus
Familiarity with lean tools (Six Sigma, Kaizen, value stream mapping, 5S, etc.)
Student currently enrolled in classes leading to a ABET accredited degree in an operations, supply chain, or related engineering discipline
At least one course on lean manufacturing practices is strongly preferred
