Vice President, Strategic Planning & Portfolio Performance

Ensuring that the company continues to deliver its results in the short term while making deliberate shifts to this new focus area for the long term requires disciplined planning, alignment and execution across multiple business units. The Vice President for Strategic Planning & Performance serves as a visible champion and change agent for the organization by advising and partnering with business unit leaders across Pearson to align priorities and allocate investment resources that help Pearson achieve both its immediate and longer-term business objectives.

Role Overview

The Vice President, Strategic Planning & Portfolio Performance is required to bring expertise to drive the development and implementation of operational planning and product performance systems. The individual will undertake significant amount of complex information gathering, analysis as well as lead monitoring of performance measures that move the needle for Pearson’s commercial performance.

Understanding Pearson’s immediate business priorities as well as longer-term strategic goals and recommending investment allocation decisions that support them.

Using market, financial, and operations research to guide and measurably improve Pearson’s performance. Collaborate with Strategic Partnerships team and Pearson Ventures on what to build vs partner and/or invest.

Provide specialist performance knowledge and skills in interpreting, presenting and reporting performance management data to inform business unit leaders and assist in planning, including which projects to continue vs stop.

Provide expertise to improve data recording, capture, reporting and management systems

Lead cross-disciplinary teams and partner with Strategy, Finance, Technology / Operations and geographies to improve planning and delivery of business plans that move the needle for the business (increase margin, new sales growth, increased LTV, improved resource utilization).



Ability to analyze diverse data sets and provide evidence-based reports outlining practical options and recommendations for the business

Ability to partner with business unit leaders and key stakeholders to deliver on ambitious strategic plan milestones and serve as a model of change agent for Pearson

Ability to establish and embed a decision-making and performance management system that is responsive to a complex, changing industry

Ability to explain business issues and communicate goals clearly

Ability to write clearly structured planning and performance recommendations

Ability to adapt and remove obstacles to achieve results, determination and optimism

Understanding of key issues and trends in the education industry

Fluency in agile methodology

Fluency in discovery-driven planning

Fluency in corporate finance fundamentals as well as financial modeling

Fluency in Tableau or equivalent business intelligence systems and tools

**Qualifications: **

Higher level degree preferred: Masters, MBA or JD/ MBA

Background in education technology

10-15 years experience with a minimum 10 years’ experience in a corporate planning / performance improvement role at an education or technology company.

Highly credible with ability engage broadly with all levels of management, on personal and professional attributes
