Position Title: Seasonal Overflow Shelter Shelter Advocate

Reports to: SOS Coordinator

Classification: Part time: Non-exempt, Temporary

Work site: Winston Prouty Campus

Compensation: $15/hour


The SOS Shelter Advocate is a part time position covering evening and weekend shifts, supporting clients, and ensuring the smooth operation of the Seasonal Overflow Shelter, beginning in October 2018 and ending in May 2019. The SOS Shelter Advocate is part of team that ensures the safety and well being of persons and property in the shelter. Shelter staff will support a safe and supportive environment while building trusting relationships with individuals experiencing homelessness. This position will primarily cover nights and weekends, with some daytime meetings with the organization.

Primary responsibilities

Staffing SOS

  • Shift coverage

Daily SOS operations

  • Client support
  • Crisis/triage interventions as needed
  • Regular cleaning and laundry tasks
  • Transportation with company vehicle

Data Entry

  • Complete intake paperwork as needed

Desired Qualifications

  • B.A. in Human Services or related field preferred, will consider all applicable experience
  • Experience in working with vulnerable populations with considerable crisis/triage background
  • Exceptional computer skills required
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle required, Motor Vehicle Record must not have disqualifying infractions in the past three years.
