Job Description:
BCS has an immediate opening for a Communications Specialist in the Washington D.C. area to join our growing team supporting the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
BCS Allegient is seeking a mid-level professional with at least five years of experience in a communications position and/or performing communications-related tasks. The ideal candidate will be an excellent writer with strong attention to detail to support content creation, copyediting, and management and execution of other communications requests and processes within the Department of Energy, including stakeholder engagement/event support. Prior experience with the U.S. Department of Energy, clean energy, and energy justice is a plus. Familiarity with using GovDelivery, Adobe Express, and LinkedIn is also a plus.
- This is a hybrid role that will require periodically working at the client site in Washington, D.C.
- The salary range for this role is between $95K-$110K (based on years of experience)
Responsibilities:
The Communications Specialist will primarily support the creation and distribution of social media, newsletters, announcements, and other communications products for a variety of internal and external stakeholders. This position requires a resourceful, self-motivated, and detailed-oriented communications professional to effectively assist with the full product production lifecycle—from initial concept or drafting of the communications product, securing subject matter expert inputs, assuring product quality, obtaining leadership approvals, to posting/promoting the final product. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Developing and executing monthly social media plans and day-to-day social media posts.
- Developing, formatting, and distributing monthly newsletters.
- Creating and editing content and resources for stakeholders, such as blog posts, fact sheets, and infographics.
- Drafting and editing press releases.
- Developing briefing materials, presentations, and talking points.
- Collaborating across multiple offices/teams.
- Providing on-site logistics support for high-level commemorative events.
- A bachelor’s degree is required.
- 5+ years of relevant work experience related to the position.
- Ability to commute/work at the client site in Washington, D.C., two days per week.
- Strong writing and presentation development skills; including the ability to convey technical and complex information to a general audience.
- Strong project management and time management skills.
- Ability to multitask and juggle multiple projects/clients at once.
- Self-motivation and attention to detail.
- Ability to work both individually and in a team environment.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience working with GovDelivery, Adobe Express, and LinkedIn (preferred).
- Experience working with a federal government agency and/or knowledge of government processes (preferred).
- Basic knowledge of 508 accessibility compliance (preferred).
