We are hiring a Senior Engineering (Firmware/Hardware based) Project Manager-Hybrid in Chandler, AZ or Urbandale, IA. (Software/IT only project managers will not be considered.)
This position will work with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement sensors and IoT technology product solutions for strategic and complex projects that require long-range planning, typically exceeding $5M in resources. The senior project manager will manage scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk across the electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, firmware, software, and IT backend systems teams to produce exceptional results to our business.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Establish and manage project goals and deliverables, stakeholders, and teams.
2. Lead teams to break complicated projects into logical and interconnected/interdependent technology, engineering, manufacturing, & operations work streams and milestones, with clear traceability to business value.
3.Provide exceptional written and verbal communication to stakeholders. Translate technical R&D plans into business terms with business stakeholders across levels and functions. Provide consistent and transparent status updates, delivering good and bad news early.
4. Work with the product manager/owner to ensure they have established adequate product features, specifications, and success criteria, to enable sufficient technical requirements. Identify and advocate gaps in product definition that impact project goals.
5. Collaborate with the product manager to establish milestones, cost targets, and project schedules at the appropriate level of risk. This includes stakeholder alignment to agile and waterfall project management methodologies used to execute delivery throughout the project. Manage program dependencies to meet set budget and costs as directed by the business leader.
6. Proactively work with management to identify changes in business requirements for the project.
7. Ensure new product development best practices are included in the project plan to meet the quality goals of the product and processes. (FMEA, design reviews, manufacturing NPI activities, code reviews, defect tracking, decision log, risk register). Ensure documentation is complete and a successful transition of ending projects to sustaining engineering occurs. Travel to support prototype and manufacturing builds and facilitate product demos and field trials as needed.
8. Champion and rigorously manage project and product risk using formal risk management techniques to identify, rate, and mitigate risks at all phases of projects. Lead team to identify obstacles and issues early to ensure ongoing collaboration.
10. All other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
1. 10+ years of R&D product development experience.
2. Seasoned in project/program management methodologies: PMP certification, Knowledge of Agile, Waterfall, Scrum, etc.
3. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, systems engineering, or related technical fields. Candidates that ALSO have software, mobile application, and backend IT experience are highly preferred. (Software/IT only project managers will not be considered.)
4. Experience with IoT devices and/or sensor technology.
4. Experience leading 25+ stakeholders across 5 or more functions to drive towards deliverables in a fast-paced environment
5. Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Project is required.
6. Must have excellent communication skills, an ability to identify bottlenecks and roadblacks, and comfort in elevating, addressing, and aligning large groups of stakeholders to achieve results
7. Able to influence and persuade all levels of leadership with the ability to drive key business decisions.
8. Must have explicit experience managing risk register and coaching others on risk management.
