The Tooth Ferry Coordinator performs a variety of technical and/or office tasks, which includes scheduling the mobile dental van to provide services within the community, and primarily at DPS sites. This position interfaces with the Durham Public Schools, Head Start and Early Head Start, as well as Summer Camp Coordinators to ensure that the permission slips/medical history/screening forms are distributed to all of the children in each school or center for dental treatment, and collects the completed forms. This position will receive input from the Dental Practice Administrator to determine how long the Tooth Ferry will be in each school (based on the number of permission slips returned) and works with the school liaison to make sure van is scheduled for specific dates and times. Position will work on the Tooth Ferry when it is at a school, entering screening data, etc., and bringing students to the van for treatment, and then walking them back into the school after treatment completed. Will assist Public Health Hygienist in completing screenings as assigned. Works with Dental Director to generate monthly reports, and other clerical duties as assigned. The position reveiws checklists, logs, etc., and will schedule maintenance service for the Tooth Ferry.

Significant knowledge of office or work unit procedures, methods and practices.
Significant knowledge of and ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling and office terminology to compose and/or proofread correspondence, reports and other materials.
Significant knowledge of accounting procedures, mathematics and their application in the work environment.
Ability to learn and independently apply laws and departmental rules and regulations covering programs and services.
Ability to review and process information to determine conclusions, actions or compliance with applicable laws, rules or regulations.
Ability to apply a variety of work-related formulas or mathematical calculations.
Ability to record, compile, summarize and perform basic analysis of data.
Ability to independently work with people with courtesy and tact in performing public contact duties that may be sensitive in nature.
May require ability to supervise and coordinate the work of other staff, student workers or volunteers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledges, skills and abilities gained through at least two years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
A valid NC driver's license and three-year acceptable driving record are required for this position.
Dental Assistant experience or those obtaining DA I certification
