Salary Range: $5,742 - $7,414/Monthly

Work Schedule: Full-time; Monday-Thursday 9:30 pm - 8:00 am; non-exempt. The work schedule for the first month will be Monday – Friday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.

Essential Job Function: Under general supervision of the Supervising Plumber, the incumbent is responsible for the full range of skilled plumbing work including the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel and repair of mechanical plumbing equipment and fixtures of water, gas, oil, steam, sewage, fire sprinkler/prevention, and refrigeration-water supply plumbing systems, including automated plumbing systems. Incumbent maintains, troubleshoots and tests plumbing systems, including backflow prevention devices; assembles, installs and repairs pumps, pipes, fittings, and fixtures; cuts, threads and brazes pipes; assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings and pipes composed of a variety of metals and materials; manages lab utilities; advises on the selection, ordering and storage of plumbing equipment and supplies; inspects completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations; participates in the maintenance and operations of a plumbing shop; maintains and services tools and equipment used in the performance of duties; performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures. Incumbent maintains a safe and clean work environment; maintains records and retrieves data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized recordkeeping systems; prepares standard reports; and consults and works with other trades workers. Work may involve exposure to hazardous materials.

Required Qualifications & Experience: Progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates the achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard plumber's apprenticeship program. Incumbent must have thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the plumbing trade; a basic knowledge of the operation of building automation systems; and a thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal health and safety orders and regulations pertaining to the plumbing trade, including the California State Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety and the California State Plumbing codes. The incumbent must be able to perform skilled plumbing work on all applicable equipment and systems; perform applicable brazing work; make rough sketches of plumbing installations; read and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications; and estimate materials and labor cost of standard plumbing maintenance and repair work. The incumbent must be certified to work on backflow prevention devices. The incumbent must possess a valid California Driver's License. The incumbent must also possess demonstrated ability and interest in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.

Desired Qualifications: A valid city of Los Angeles or county of Los Angeles Plumbing Journeyman License.
