GIS SPECIALIST

Tilson is seeking a GIS Specialist to support our growing telecommunications engineering practice. This job will reside in our Portland, ME headquarters and will be responsible for providing technical and analytical information management solutions using software and databases for telecom projects. With minimal supervision, the employee will have responsibility for execution of GIS related project task administration and execution. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects, take rapidly shifting priorities in stride, and work independently are a must.

Responsibilities:

Performs day to day GIS related tasks, such as:

  • Routine data input and updates of GIS data, ensuring accuracy, precision, & organization
  • Database manipulation & maintenance for GIS team & project data sets. Communication with project team to gather requirements, come up with a work plan, and execute
  • QA/QC of project or internal GIS datasets. Scripting of QA/QC tasks when needed
  • Geoprocessing & analytical tasks completed as needed. On the job learning with minimal supervision expected
  • Creation and maintenance of documentation for databases, custom tools & scripts, and team best practices
  • Maintains the required project files to ensure that document references, analytical methods, calculations and rationale used in reaching conclusions are complete, pertinent and current
  • Custom GIS application support (3GIS applications, ESRI ArcServer tools, plus any other custom applications created and/or maintained by Tilson data team)
  • Performs additional tasks specifically relating to GIS for other departments within Tilson as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ degree required
  • 3-5+ years’ experience using ArcGIS as core part of previous employment
  • Solid skills in maintaining database integrity as a GIS practitioner
  • Attention to detail, self-motivated and a team player
  • Willing to seek out other assignments or tasks that need to be completed
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel & Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Understanding of telecommunications networks is a plus
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Safe FME, and/or 3GIS is a plus
  • Experience with Python, publishing services to ArcGIS server, and/or web application deployment is a big plus
  • Proven experience digging into a domain & applying GIS techniques to that domain (Experience in private utilities, energy, and/or telecommunications a plus)
  • Proven experience adapting to change, learning on the job, and working in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with enterprise geodatabases, geodatabases, and other types of databases (SQL, PostgreSQL a plus)
  • Effective time management plus ability to communicate timelines & plan work
  • Experience with Python, publishing services to ArcGIS server, and/or web application deployment
