This position is based in the Research and Development department and will be part of a growing Electrical Engineering team. The position will focus on implementing control systems, Design digital signal processing (DSP), and communication interface design in FPGA using a combination of logic fabric, hard processor, and soft core processing architectures with in FPGAs. This engineer will have ownership of design from prototype to market launch and will support other engineering departments and production as necessary. You will immediately be integrated into multidisciplinary engineering teams that work with a wide range of technologies including analog, digital, and RF circuit design, electronic sensors, chemical analysis, firmware design, and a software team that develops Linux-based applications that interact with web UIs, and underlying hardware modules across multiple products.
System architecture design, implementation, and testing utilizing FPGAs using Verilog or VHDL.
Design digital signal processing (DSP) systems, control systems, and interfaces necessary to communicate with existing hardware.
Algorithm design and development for controlling external hardware through various interfaces (SPI, I2C, GPIO, etc).
Define test procedures and perform tests of components and systems to ensure that they meet performance goals
Design and optimization systems at the hardware level with safety to prevent catastrophic system failure.
Take a concept and turn it into a prototype, specific development of product, or proof of concept demonstration with minimal oversight
Update and debugging of INFICON’s current products that utilize FPGAs using JTAG, Signal Tap, logic analyzers, or similar techniques
Design using higher level firmware (“gateware”) software and development techniques (evaluation of emerging market offerings)
Compile documentation to support verification and validation phase of testing
Participate in and/or direct the product design efforts including defining product specifications, performing detailed electrical and electromechanical designs, evaluating and selecting components, constructing and evaluating the performance of engineering prototypes
Experience and requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field required
More than 3 years’ experience in the design and implementation of systems using FPGAs. Candidates with less than 3 years with an advanced degree (Master's or PhD) will be considered
Experience with Altera brand FPGA’s preferred
Soft core processor design experience is a plus
Ability to manage multiple projects
Documentation of all work with in INFICON database for knowledge transfer
Must be able to work on cross functional teams
Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrating a positive attitude and interaction with the internal team and customers
Highly organized, self-starting, sense of urgency, team oriented
