The Sound Designer is a sound artist, audio engineer and composer who specializes in sound design and audio-content creation for art exhibits. The preferred candidate will have robust experience with advanced recording techniques, a diverse range of compositional styles and experience in sound installation and interactive/generative sound design techniques.
- Respond to aesthetic input from Artists, Creative Directors and Sound Team Creative lead to develop sound design concepts for Meow Wolf projects.
- Create sound environments for Meow Wolf exhibitions including composition, arrangement, mix, mastering sound design/foley.
- Provide reference tracks and audio moodboards to clarify creative intent with artists and creative directors.
- Provide drafts and demos for stakeholder feedback.
- Request and respond to feedback from stakeholders.
- Research and develop known and undiscovered means of producing and experiencing acoustic phenomena.
- Assist in the development of playback systems, creative demos, and interactive or spatial sound for exhibitions.
- Aid artists and other departments to produce, refine, mix, and master audio content generated outside the Sound Team.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This role also includes standard equipment for immersive experiences such as sensors, microcontrollers, computers, lights, sound, video, and electromechanical elements.
The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25-50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel is expected for this position.
