General Summary/Purpose:
The Sheridan Libraries are seeking an innovative, creative, user-focused library assistant to assist with the delivery of services to faculty and students based on the Homewood Campuses. General Nature and Purpose of the Work: Provide assistance to users of course reserves by processing materials in multiple formats.

Note: 3-month position July 2019 - October 2019. This position is not benefits eligible.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Create access to course materials: interpret and organize course information and use library and electronic reserve management systems to execute circulation functions, create indexing, track orders/requests, and solve problems; search full text subscription databases; learn how ebooks are used to support courses, how ebooks vary depending on provider, and how to use GOBI to research options and place orders; learn basics of copyright regulations and how to apply fair use.
Interact with faculty to clarify information, explain policy, and redress problems.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
High School Diploma/GED required.
Two years of related experience is required.
Additional education can be substituted for experience.

Preferred qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree Preferred.
Exposure to automated library systems preferred.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Aptitude for detail and organization.
Ability to manage multiple tasks with urgent deadlines.
Ability to manage and contribute to change.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Capacity to exercise good judgment and make independent decisions.
General knowledge of microcomputer software applications and web coding.
Familiarity with academic environments and bibliographic utilities.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
