Central Bucks Family YMCA is looking for an engaging and responsible candidate to be our Adapted Aquatics Instructor and lead our children with disabilities swim group. Prior experience working with children with intellectual & developmental disabilities and/or experience in behavior management required; experience teaching youth swimming preferred. Experience teaching school-age adapted group swim lessons for beginner through advanced levels.

REQUIREMENTS: Swim instructor candidates must be at least 18 years old; YUSA swimming, WSI, or Swim Angel Fish certification preferred.

DAYS/HOURS NEEDED: Saturdays, 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM.


Under the direct supervision of the Director of Ability Programs, the Ability Programs Adapted Aquatics Group Lesson Instructor is responsible for leading program instruction for members and participants with disabilities in adapted aquatics programming.


  • Swim instructors ensure participant information is collected through face to face interviews; collect participant and instructional needs and pertinent medical information prior to the beginning of program.
  • Swim Instructor must assess student present level of performance to prepare lesson plans and provide instruction and age appropriate progressive skill development towards goals.
  • Adapt program activities according to program participant’s needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality of participant information.
  • Evaluate participants success toward goals using appropriate assessment tool, and provide feedback to participants and parents/guardians on individual performance.
  • Swim Instructor arrive 5 minutes before scheduled class time to prepare equipment and set up for class to begin at scheduled start time.
  • Ensure program area is safe and clear of any hazards.
  • Swim instructor must wear proper attire and name tag in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.


  • Complete incident reports
  • Swim Instructor take attendance
  • Alert supervisor of any personal schedule changes
  • Track work time as directed by supervisor
  • Support the training and development of new hires
  • Support the YMCA’s special events as needed
