Overview:
The Mission of Durham's Sesquicentennial (150th anniversary) is to recognize Durham's past, present and future with a year of events, activities, and community engagement, to build awareness and anticipation both locally and nationally for Durham's rich history and highly promising future, and to celebrate the community's spirit, values and accomplishments.

Primary Function:
The Durham 150 Project Assistant serves as a support staff person for Sesquicentennial events and activities. With guidance and oversight from the Project Manager, the project assistant will be responsible for providing administrative support to project teams and executing social media strategies. General duties will include data entry, request processing, meeting coordination and reporting. The project assistant will also be responsible for the day-to-day content management and monitoring of Durham 150's social media channels. This position will coordinate closely with stakeholders to ensure strategy, content and editorial production are aligned, and that priorities and goals are clear. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with some administrative, event planning and social media management experience in addition to strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

This is a part-time, time-limited position estimated to start on or about November 1st and may continue through January 31, 2020 (15 months). Compensation for this hourly position is targeted at $15-18 per hour commensurate with experience. Reimbursement of parking and other out of pocket expenses will be provided, but no other benefits are included. The incumbent of this post will be employed by the Durham Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The Project Assistant's commitment is estimated at 15-25 hours a week, with some opportunities for increased hours around event execution time periods and may require non-traditional hours including nights and weekends.

Primary Responsibilities (not an exhaustive list):
Assist with the Durham 150 project administrative and event management support.
Schedule meetings, send notices, make reminder calls, prepare reports, agendas, minutes and presentations.
Coordinate the logistics and communications of committee meetings.
Work with the project manager and various event committees to assist with the programming and production of Durham 150's major events.
Fields inquiries and requests from parties interested in developing Durham 150 projects and celebrations.
Draft content to be used as collateral for Durham 150's official website and social media channels.
Coordinate social media outreach and the development of strategy to help with engagement on the Durham 150 events.
Implement Durham 150's social media strategy by developing effective and innovative content and messaging to engage multiple audiences on social media accounts and websites.
Monitor incoming mentions, messages and questions; and engage with Durham 150's audiences on social media accounts.
Serve as a social media facilitator at all Durham 150 events and assist with event promotions including script writing and content creation (eg: Live Tweeting).
Audit and monitor social media profiles of stakeholders, project donors, community partner organizations to cross-promote Durham 150 events.
Monitor traffic on social networks and flag conversations related to Durham 150's brand mentions and specific keywords.
Track analytics, key performance indicators and benchmark performance metrics using assessment tools to inform continuous and consistent improvement of Durham 150's social media presence.

Additional information:
This position includes work that at times takes place after "standard" office hours and on weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:
1-3 years of related experience.
Exceptional writing, time management and organizational skills.
Intermediate computer skills using Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Internet applications on a PC/Windows-based platform.
An enthusiasm for new media platforms.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities including excellent writing, copy editing and proofreading skills.
Demonstrated initiative in solving problems with energy and a positive attitude.
Graphic and digital design experience preferred.
Degree in public relations, communications, marketing, or similar.
Durham residency preferred...passion for Durham required!
