Maintains and repairs various types of vehicles to ensure compliance with established company motor vehicle standards. Follows all established vehicle maintenance schedules. Responds to on-road vehicle incidents including accidents and breakdowns

Properly completes preventive mechanical maintenance on company vehicles as indicated by the established company repair schedule.

Responsible for completing diagnostic procedures when necessary on Fleet vehicles to determine the mechanic problem.

Determines if the problem is beyond the capacity of the shop and recommends if the vehicle should be sent out to another facility

Assures that the work vehicular repairs and routine maintenance meets the company’s standard for quality.

Responsible for fabricating and preparing new vehicles for road service.

Directly responsible for completing all complex vehicle repairs, including engine & transmission rebuilds, meter work, etc.

Acts as a technical advisor for the Journeyman & Apprentice Mechanics. Demonstrates to the Journeyman Mechanics how to repair complex mechanical problems.

Mentors and teaches the Journey & Apprentice level mechanics how to repair more complex vehicular problems.

On a daily basis, documents the type/amount of parts and labor expended on completed and on-going work orders

Reports any major vehicle problems to the Fleet Manager.

In the absence of the Fleet Manager, responsible for assigning work to the shift mechanics and reviews completed work for quality and accuracy.

Responsible for reporting any employee relations problems or issues to the Fleet Manager in a timely manner.

Adhere to the company’s schedule of maintenance & repairs for all company vehicles.

Maintains a safe work environment by following company/departmental safety practices and procedures.

Completes all driver vehicle repair records (DVIR’s) in accordance with the company’s established requirements.

Responds to emergency road calls/repairs when needed

High school diploma or equivalent

Valid, MD Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker & Haz/Mat Endorsements, Class A preferred

Extensive knowledge of various vehicle maintenance repairs & practices at a level normally acquired through 9+ years of experience in vehicle repair & maintenance.

OR graduate of trade/technical school with 4-6 yrs of on the job experience

Analytical ability necessary to evaluate and make recommendations regarding the mechanical status of a vehicle

Ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail.

Ability to effectively communicate verbally with others including co-workers.
