Job Summary and Mission

As an accounting manager on the Revenue Accounting team, you will contribute to Starbucks success by leading and developing a high performing team (4 direct reports) that performs detailed accounting processes and business analyses to support over 12,000 company owned retail stores in US, Canada, and EMEA with combined revenues in excess of $1 Billion per month. The successful candidate will ensure the timely and accurate month end closure of our revenue subledger and associated reporting and KPIs such as comparible sales and store count reporting.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

Leadership

Provides inspirational leadership to communicate vision and strategy for the accounting team; creates a positive and colaborative team environment including confidence in leadership and teamwork to achieve business results.
Deals successfully with ambiguity, managing multiple priorities and able to lead team through complex changes and systems.
Effectively influences to help support and implement organizational priorities and initiatives.
Provides thought leadership to determine resources needed to ensure business needs are met including people and systems. Effectively communicates and quantify the needs, risks and opportunities to influence scope and timing of initiatives, ensuring success for the team and the Company
Demonstrates a clear commitment to the highest standards of professional and personal conduct and holds team to the same standard in accordance with the Starbucks missions and values.

Business requirements

Acts as a subject matter expert in Revenue accounting practices and processes, provides customers with clear and consistent guidance and education.
Leads and motivates the team to improve or simplify current process.
Manage and execute month-end close process to ensure timely and accurate financial data in compliance with GAAP and Company policies. Recommends solutions, maintains consistency and leadership when issues arise during close.
Identifies key risks and opportunities and works cross functionally to provide solutions that drive process improvements and strengthen the control environment.
Works cross functionally with operations and IT to onboard new retail locations and sales models such as delivery. Provides accounting guidance and recommendations and quantifies opportunities and risks. Participates in cross functional teams to implement accounting solutions for new business activities.
Provides oversight to ensure systems, processes and internal controls are consistently applied.
Communicates complex financial information and concepts to both finance and business leaders to influence decision making. Meets with business partners to review operating results, respond to questions, and identify areas requiring additional research or action.

Coaches and inspires partners to meet business objectives, challenge status quo and seek continuous improvement.
Attracts, retains and develops high performing partners.
Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
Provides coaching, direction and leadership to team members inside and outside of immediate team. Leads, influences or provides subject matter expertise to cross-functional teams. Raises the skill level and business acumen on the team.
Supports development of team by providing training and coaching, reviewing the work of others, and helping to prioritize work.
Drives continuous process improvements to support the growth of the business.

Summary of Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required

5+ years of relevant experience:
Progressive experience in accounting or finance, including financial analysis, variance analysis, and/or revenue accounting
Prior management or supervision experience required
Experience with ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, or other ERP) preferred
Revenue accounting and/or retail accounting experience preferred
Experience with BlackLine modules including but not limited to accounts, matching and journals modules preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate accounting results to both accounting and non-accounting customers at various levels of the organization
Understanding of US GAAP and internal controls
Strong problem solving and analytical skills
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Power Point and Word
Ability to assess business processes and implement improvements and controls
Ability to lead and influence others vertically and horizontality throughout the organization and within cross-functional teams
Ability to multi-task and manage priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment, while exhibiting exceptional attention to detail and continuously driving process improvements
Ability to work independently
Displays initiative and has the ability to improve processes and document work performed
