The MedStar Health’s National Center for Human Factors in Healthcare Research Fellow will study applied human factors and cognitive science in the healthcare environment, with a specific project to be jointly determined by the candidate and the mentor. This position is a one year term with the high likelihood of extension. This position will report scientifically to the Scientific Director of the National Center for Human Factors in Healthcare.
Ph.D. in Human Factors, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Informatics or a related field.
Previous experience in Healthcare is preferred, but is not required. Experience with data analytics and research methods is desired.
No special certification, registration or license required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Consistently demonstrates support for compliance in the performance of job duties and responsibilities by a) developing and maintaining knowledge of, and performing job functions in compliance with, rules, regulations, policies, and statutes that affect his/her job; b) maintaining knowledge of and performing job functions in compliance with MedStar Health and MedStar Health Research Institute policies and procedures; and c) reporting compliance concerns in an appropriate and timely manner.
Develop a rigorous research project with mentor focused on applying human factors or cognitive science principles to the safety, quality, and efficiency of healthcare.
Effectively disseminate research results via journal publications and presentations.
Employ human factors and/or cognitive science methods which may include eye tracking, cognitive modeling, machine learning, and observational data collection methods.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Use data analytics expertise to leverage large data sets of electronic health record data and patient safety event data.
Use statistical knowledge to analyze quantitative or qualitative data.
