Job Description
Syngenta is seeking an Environmental Fate and Exposure Specialist who will be responsible for evaluating the environmental fate of our active ingredients and modeling exposure to support labeled use patterns and provide input to regulatory risk assessments. The role includes developing science strategy to meet techno-regulatory requirements and ensuring the creation of top-tier submission packages to support the maintenance, re-registration, and development of crop protection products for Syngenta in the United States and Canada.
This position will be in a hybrid work setting in our Greensboro, NC HQ. You must live the greater Greensboro or Raleigh area, or willing to relocate.
Duties:

Lead environmental exposure projects across various stages of pesticide active ingredient development, leveraging extensive scientific expertise and robust stakeholder management skills.

Conduct ecological and drinking water exposure assessments for the US EPA, and Canadian PMRA by using regulatory exposure models for surface and groundwater to support new and existing registrations of Syngenta products for registration and re-registration risk assessments.

Provide strategic and exposure modelling support for endangered species risk assessments of pesticide active ingredients.

Support pesticide management and projects involving off-target movement and exposure mitigations (i.e., runoff, drift, and flux).

Contribute to the development of methodologies, data, and studies specific to Syngenta products including analytical methods, terrestrial/aquatic field dissipation, and laboratory metabolism.
Qualifications
Required:
-
Master of Science with at least 5 years’ experience or Ph.D. within a field related to environmental science, hydrology, soil science, soil physics, environmental or agricultural engineering, environmental chemistry.

Strong oral and written communication skills with experience preparing and presenting technical information.
-
Ability to plan, organize, adapt, and develop technical skills in disciplines beyond core area of expertise.

Ability to manage a number of complex priorities, while ensuring delivery.
-
Ability to interact and effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
Preferred:
-
Experience with and understanding of the environmental fate inputs of FIFRA-related Risk Assessments and Endangered Species Assessments.

Knowledge of and/or experience in the following areas: regulatory models used in environmental risk assessments including models used such as: PWC, SWCC, PRZM, VVWM, PRZM-GW, PFAM, VFSMOD, CAKE, PESTDF, etc., statistical procedures used in environmental sciences.

Experience with off-target movement, including drift (AgDRIFT and AgDISP) and field flux modeling.

Experience in model development, programming (R, Python, etc), mathematical modelling.
