Serves as an integral part of the communications staff for the County Council and an initial point of contact with the public and media for information about Council business.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supports the Office by completing assignments that may include researching information and generating news releases regarding County Council initiatives, programs, services, and upcoming events involving the County Council or Council Members.
Creates letters, resolutions, briefing materials and messages.
Utilizes and maintains County Council social media accounts. Assists in developing and maintaining Council webpages.
Takes photographs and video recordings for use in social media and on the Council's website. This includes coverage of evening and weekend events.
Greets Council guests, answers telephone inquiries, and provides public information as directed.
Serves as an initial point of contact with the public and media to ascertain needs and assemble information or arrange a response to inquiries. Manages Public Information Act requests.
Maintains logs, lists and databases as directed.
Maintains schedules and calendars as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's Degree and one year of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Solid writing experience developing letters, messages, media releases.
Experience with social media to include Facebook, Twitter, and maintaining content for website
Experience in responding to media requests for information or access to officials and facilities.
Experience maintaining office reference aids, such as database of print articles linked to files of copies.
LANGUAGE SKILLS, MATHEMATICAL SKILLS AND REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
