Position Overview

This position will provide comprehensive Engineering support to Proterra’s Senior VP of Engineering and other site leadership team members. You will be responsible for leading technical work that includes sustaining cost and quality work, product launch, product development, advanced concepts and activities that include leading a small team performing program management, material and system selection, design release, analysis, development, validation and production launch.

About the Role – You will:
Lead the Engineering and Program Management work for vehicle thermal systems (HVAC, defroster, aux heaters, various heat/cool loops, pumps, radiators, controls and fans) over the entire product lifecycle (advanced and sustaining) while ensuring timely completion of all vehicle engineering deliverables necessary to meet production capacity ramps including control activities.
Develop and oversee material selection, design release, development and validation and analysis engineering groups to successfully launch new customer product introductions into the field as measured by timing, cost, reliability and performance.
Utilize problem solving process for resolving build, field and test incidents to provide timely closure to issues affecting quality, reliability and durability and identify technical solutions that extend vehicle range via system efficiencies.
Ensure product and all design changes are properly validated and comply with federal compliance, regulatory and testing requirements while ensuring engineering processes are consistently and effectively utilized.
Lead and support best practices for technical data packages, drawing accuracy, data and modeling, available materials usage, IP creation and projection and provide complete set of engineering release documentation necessary to produce vehicles in scalable manufacturing environment.
Work closely and effectively with the Integrated Supply Chain, Marketing and Sales, Business Development, Manufacturing and Quality organizations as well as vendor partners on all product launch aspects.
Establish a knowledge base of best practices through development of Bill and Design and Bill of Process documents while staffing the engineering group to scale with business growth and budgeted hiring plan.

This position will be part of the Greenville based Engineering team that supports Proterra’s Manufacturing and Engineering operations in Greenville, SC.
You will report to the Senior VP of Engineering and collaborate with other Engineering team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and other manufacturing facility in Los Angeles, CA.

Your Experience Includes:
8+ years of progressive engineering experience within the transportation industry with some experience in thermal systems required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

You might also have:
MS in Mechanical Engineering.
Commercial bus, heavy truck, automotive or vehicle systems design
