The Assistant Vice President (AVP) Corporate Compliance is responsible for day to day operational leadership and management of the compliance program for primary enterprise/metro facilities (CMC, CMC Mercy, Levine Cancer Institute, Behavioral Health) and serves as the Compliance Officer for those entities. Also functions as the Compliance Liaison for the Atrium affiliates which includes educating and communicating system compliance initiatives to regional leadership. Ensures ongoing implementation and maintenance of the organization’s corporate compliance program at the enterprise and regional level. Coordinates, supervises and reports compliance activities for Atrium owned facilities. Works collaboratively with other system Compliance Officers to standardize and implement consistent approaches to Compliance Program management. Serves as conduit between the Corporate Compliance Department and the primary enterprise entities to manage and coordinate all compliance matters. The position reports to the Vice President of Corporate Compliance.
Advise senior leadership, teammates, and medical staff on issues concerning compliance matters including recommending controls designed to ensure compliance. Ensure implementation of Atrium Health’s Compliance Plan, the Code of Conduct “A System of Integrity” and applicable policies and procedures.
Implement policies and procedures that encourage teammates, leadership, contractors and medical staff to report compliance concerns without fear of retaliation.
Works collaboratively with primary enterprise entity leadership on development, implementation and improvement of the corporate compliance program. Establishes working relationships and builds credibility with the organizational senior leadership and operational leadership to support a culture of compliance.
Independently investigates or supports the supervision of the investigation of compliance allegations and concerns that are raised through Atrium’s helpline, internal reporting or other reporting mechanisms for assigned entities.
Monitor the implementation of corrective action plans and documentation resolution of any identified issues.
Identifies and reports findings, trends, problems and activities that may indicate a need for change in policies, procedures, internal controls or training.
Establishes and administers a process for compliance teammates at the entities to receive, document, track, investigate and take action on all concerns regarding the organizations compliance practices.
Leads continual risk assessment for assigned entities Risk Assessment
Chair entity compliance council
Attends team meetings, department huddles, key leadership and management meetings, and one on one meetings to establish awareness of possible compliance risks and to serve as a trusted resource to all constituents on compliance matters.
Regionals (Affiliated Entities)
Develop, implement and maintain compliance due diligence checklist and gap analysis tool for potential joint ventures and or newly acquired entities. Onboard new entities from a compliance perspective
Develop, implement and maintain forums for regional compliance teams and regional leadership.
Communicate risk areas and concerns to Chief Compliance Officer
Minimum ten to fifteen years of progressive responsible experience, including leadership in healthcare compliance, auditing or closely related field. Working knowledge of healthcare operations in a large health system.
Knowledge and understanding of laws and policies related to healthcare, including hospital-physician relationships, healthcare technology, billing, coding, documentation, clinical research, EMTALA, HIPAA, conflict of interest and related issues. Experience in handling Stark Law and Anti-Kickback Statute issues.
Certification in HealthCare Compliance
More than 7 years of operational compliance as a health care compliance officer or equivalent role
Experience with executive level stakeholders
Generally works in an office environment, sitting at a desk, working with a computer, talking on the telephone, and preparing specific reports, presentations, and other statistical data. Time is spent in meetings at a variety of CHS facilities often requiring travel. May require carrying and/or lifting up to 20 pounds of materials (files, projectors, laptops).
