Intern Program Overview
Serco’s Training and Experience Program (STEP) is designed to provide college students an internship opportunity to gain meaningful, hands-on work experience in a professional environment. STEP emphasizes developing the next generation’s workforce. Our goal is to build a roadmap that leads you to a long, rewarding and challenging career with Serco. We will work with you to determine your desired career path and the correct steps to get you to your goals.
Outside of gaining hands-on experience, you will attend training sessions taught by skilled leaders in our company. These training sessions range from finance, personality in the workplace, presentation skills, resume building, and more. In addition, Serco emphasizes being environmentally friendly and making a positive difference in the community. We challenge our interns to develop and execute on at least one group initiative that will benefit the office and/or local community. Projects in the past have included a park cleanup and a recycling drive.
This internship spans over 12 weeks—11 weeks worked with 1 week off for Canada Day and half days on Fridays. You will work with your mentor to identify the best times for you to come in and leave work. You will work no more than an average of 36 hours a week.
As an intern at our Moose Jaw location, you will participate in a variety of activities conducting the administration, finance and logistical aspects of our program – providing extremely critical support to enable us to provide technical service support in maintaining all airfield navigational aids and airfield communications, provide air information services and augment air traffic control for the NATO Flying Training Program in Canada – NFTC. Your role on this team will be to assist with ISO, shipping and receiving of parts and equipment (including cross-border), procurement, processing service requests, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and HR. You will learn the importance of teamwork and the value of giving and earning respect amongst team members.
Having exposure to each of these capabilities will better prepare you to be a well-rounded business administration professional and provide an opportunity to develop your skills and demonstrate your abilities and character in a high-tech, real-world setting. Moreover, it is an opportunity for personal and professional growth while learning something new.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on a very active program supporting the busiest military airfield in Canada where military pilots are trained on turboprop and jet aircraft and is also the home of the 431 Squadron - Canadian Forces Snowbirds Aerial Demonstration Team.
