Adventures in Writing Camp is seeking creative, upbeat and zany counselors to lead campers throughout their camp day. From leading a round of capture the flag, to acting in morning improv skits, and giving camper’s suggestions on plot and grammar, you’ll have a blast while developing your own leadership, teaching, and acting skills! During the classroom rotations, you will participate in projects as though you yourself were a camper, other than times called upon to assist the credentialed teacher leading the rotation.

  • An outgoing “people-person” who loves working with kids
  • Someone who loves getting silly, wearing costumes, and making others laugh
  • A college student or college graduate who wants to help elementary school students fall in love with writing
  • An up and coming actor or future teacher who believes that learning can and should be fun
  • An energetic team player who is always ready to help
  • An adventurer who is willing to try new things and adjust along the way
  • A “maker” and a technology-lover who enjoys using technology to create new things
  • Someone who takes having fun very seriously, but does not take themselves TOO seriously

What you’ll do...

  • Create an unforgettably positive experience for every camper (grades 1-8) and parent
  • Be responsible for a troop of 15-30 campers, leading them from activity to activity and monitoring their overall happiness and safety on-site
  • Be prepared to come dressed in a costume each day, and HAVE FUN!
  • Perform in daily assemblies that make writing topics fun and memorable
  • Actively support teachers with their lessons, explaining ideas, making corrections and suggestions and providing plenty of words of encouragement
  • Help campers write and publish their own completed e-books or blogs
  • Lead morning games with structure and high enthusiasm

What we’re looking for...

  • Current college student or recent graduate
  • Experience working with K-8th grade children
  • Current First Aid CPR Certification ideal but not required
  • Experience teaching with tablets is a plus, as well as familiarity with the book publishing process.
  • Excellent communicator (with parents, staff, and Site Administrator)
