Position Summary

Oversee and manage an operations area(s) to prepare units for drilling, competent and qualified in all areas to handle land assignments and projects of a broad scope and moderate complexity. This position will lead a team of field Brokers that is responsible for title, curative, leasing, and limited acquisitions within an operations area. Represent the Company in negotiating and acquiring general lease agreements, small to medium leasehold acquisitions, and trades with other companies and/or mineral owners holding acreage in the same general area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Direct Broker team on a daily basis to prepare title updates and reports, secure oil and gas leases, lease modifications, and curative necessary to prepare land for drilling within operations area.
Evaluate, negotiate, and prepare lease language with mineral owners for the acquisition of lease contracts and/or securing rights to the mineral interest.
Negotiate, prepare, and execute leasehold acquisitions or trades with various operators.
Proactively pursue opportunities to maximize value through acreage trades or other acquisition related transactions of producing and non-producing properties.
Work with attorneys in the construction and analysis of purchase and sale agreements as well as trade agreements.
Oversee and coordinate leasehold extensions and renewals within operating area.
Review title reports and oversee curative efforts to reduce risk associated with ownership and development of the minerals.
Provide direction to Surface Landman regarding Surface Use Agreements and Right of Way contracts.
Analyze lease terms and provisions, and provide direction as necessary to secure amendments.
Coordinate and assist attorneys with legal actions such as missing heir petitions and partitions.
Understand the regulatory framework of operating jurisdiction and testify as needed in regulatory hearings.
Communicate and present weekly results and status updates to Senior Management.
On a weekly basis, communicate and coordinate with other departments to manage changing priorities for drilling. Maintain ongoing collaboration and partnership to help identify risks and improve efficiency.
Train and direct efforts of Land Technician and Landman Associates assigned to operating area to guide and assist with their activities.
Provide assistance, expertise, and professionally respond to both internal and external inquires. Help the team resolve more challenging questions or issues.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

Perform various projects, research, and miscellaneous Land maintenance.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education, Experience, Licensure

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
Five (5) years of Land, Land Title, Leasing, or related experience.

Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure

Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Land Management, Energy Management, Law, or related discipline.
Five (5) years of in-house experience.
Landman Education Certificate or Registered Professional Landman (CPL or RPL).

Required Core Competencies – Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including MS Excel, Word, etc. and use/operation of standard office equipment.
Good knowledge of Petroleum Land Management principles.
Good understanding of Oil & Gas Exploration terms, Land and Legal documents. Able to interpret, research, and examine various contracts and title options.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interface with management, colleagues, field personnel, landowners, and business contacts.
Ability to review and draft advanced lease and agreement language.
Good negotiation skills with demonstrated ability to reach a favorable outcome and/or resolve difficult situations.
Good conflict management skills, with ability to operate in a high stress environment in calm and professional demeanor.
Able to plan, analyze, and evaluate data.
Able to identify and solve moderately complex to complex problems.
Able to be detail oriented, self-starter, and work independently while maintaining goals and tasks.
Able to understand and exhibit ethical behavior and business practices. Ensure own behavior and the behavior of others are consistent with these standards and align with the values of the Company.

Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires regular use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system.

Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
The employee will minimally lift, carry, and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Travel Requirements

Occasional travel may be required to other locations.
Minimal travel to Company’s field operations.
