Perform a variety of technical and supportive patient care tasks toassist attending anesthesiologists, residents and nurse anesthetists inperforming anesthetic procedures for patients ranging from infancy togeriatrics. Performs routine and delegated duties according todepartmental policies.
Consult Operating Room schedule to determine supply and equipmentneeds for procedures; prepare anesthetizing locations for indicatedprocedure to include setting up and calibrating monitoring devices;troubleshoot anesthesia equipment malfunctions, routing non-functionalequipment to the proper department for repair.Assist anesthesiaproviders using aseptic or sterile technique with non-invasive andinvasive patient procedures including peripheral and/or centralintravenous and/or arterial line placement; airway managementtechniques including mask, endotracheal and/or emergency methods andregional anesthesia techniques.Assist anesthesia providers withphysiological monitoring of patients notifying the anesthesiaprovider(s) of abnormal changes in vital signs and/or physicalappearance of the patient.Clean anesthesia machines, monitorsand equipment following procedures established by InfectionControl.Stock anesthesia supplies in all anesthetizinglocations including ploss carts, fiberoptic carts, emergency airwaybags and any other anesthesia supply location.Obtain suppliesand equipment as requested by anesthesia providers.Assist withpatient laboratory tests and results including, but not limited to,ABG's, ACTs and other point of care tests.Obtain blood productsand pharmaceuticals assisting with preparation anddelivery.Maintain immediate availability to assist in routineand emergency procedures.May act as a resource and role modelfor other anesthesia technicians, anesthesia providers, learners andother health care team members by providing technical guidance andinstruction as appropriate.May provide verbal and writtenfeedback of interviewees and peers as appropriate and as indicated bysupervisor.May serve as an instructor/facilitator ofeducational in-services for other anesthesia technicians.Mayact as a role model for orientation and training of anesthesiatechnicians and other health care team members.May assumeanesthesia technician charge role in managing daily work schedule ofanesthesia technicians and directing care to provide an efficient andsafe environment.Acquire and/or maintain certification byobtaining annual continuing education requirements.
