Principal Data Management Engineer

In this exciting role, you will participate in the systems development life cycle for new development, enhancements and maintenance projects in Data Management/Data Analytics environment. As a member of the Delivery Management team, you will lead development project teams onsite and offshore to design, develop and deploy reusable Data Management Framework to support a variety of Optum Labs business needs. The position will report to a resource manager, but will be matrixed to project managers for completion of project activity.

Primary Responsibilities:
Research, evaluate, identify alternative approaches to support development needs
Build Data Management related tools, reusable patterns using Big Data technologies (Spark/Scala, Pig, Hive, HBase). Build Data Transport tools on Azure Public Cloud leveraging open source technologies
Recommend, design and code efficient and effective solutions for challenging problems for medium to large work efforts of medium to high complexity
Comply with standards and guidelines related to the design, construction, testing, and deployment activities within the Delivery Management environments
Demonstrate collaborative skills working within a project team of diverse skills
Bring strong communication skills including oral, written and presentation skills plus creativity, and problem solving skills to a challenging environment
Act as a Project Development Lead with one or more developers matrixed for the completion of the project
Provide guidance and direction to less-seasoned staff in transforming existing tech stack to Big Data/Azure Cloud tech stack

Required Qualifications:
8+ years of overall technology related experience working as a Software Engineer building and managing various ETL and Data Management related tools, reusable patterns
6+ years of experience implementing data management solutions using Spark/Scala on MapR/Hadoop distribution
2+ years of experience implementing Data Management Solutions on Azure Cloud
2+ years of experience in building re-usable Data Management framework to leverage at enterprise level
2+ years of experience using Jenkins CI/CD framework for continuous development and delivery
2+ years of experience in automation with Terraform CI/CD on Azure Cloud
Experience working with JSON, Parquet file formats

Preferred Qualifications:
2+ years of experience using Sqoop, Hive, HBase, Pig, Kafka tools to sqoop, standardize, enrich data4+ years of experience writing tools using Unix Shell Scripting, PERL scripting
2+ years of experience using any of the scheduling tools such as Yarn, TWS(Tivoli), Oozie, WLM, crontab etc
2+ years of experience on Agile methodologies and tools(Rally)
Familiarity with Data Warehousing and Star Schema, Facts and Dimensions.
Familiarity with Talend or TOS(Talend Open Source)
Knowledge in any data base technologies like Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, Netezza, Mongo DB and GreenPlum
Familiarity with any programming languages (Java, Perl, Shell script, C++)
Familiarity with ETL tools Datastage or Pentaho, Talend
