Assists licensed anesthesia provider with duties related to the care and monitoring of patients and equipment.
1.1 Cleans, sterilizes and sets up anesthesia equipment.
1.2 Assists anesthesia provider with patient assessment, monitoring, transport, positioning, insertion of intravenous and other invasive lines, and airway management.
1.3 Provides daily maintenance of equipment and troubleshoots malfunctions.
1.4 Maintains an adequate inventory of necessary equipment and supplies.
1.5 Works in a secure department with access to areas where medications are stored. Replenishes medications into various carts/boxes, or kits for anesthesia use. Drugs must be available in the proper dosages and the intravenous therapy supplies and equipment must be readied.
1.6 Prepares and assembles transducer lines and equipment necessary for invasive pressure monitoring as necessary or requested. Assists anesthesia provider as requested in preparation and draping of patient. Assists and anticipates needs of anesthesia provider in invasive monitor insertion and procedures such as pulmonary artery catheter, central venous access, regional anesthesia.
1.7 Sets up OR for cases according to licensing restrictions which, may include the following: Preparation IV solution and tubing set-up and IV warming devices, Rapid infuser. Cleans and organizes anesthesia workroom and medication room. Report malfunctioning equipment to Biomed and management. Complete ERS as needed. Ensures there is no reuse (re-cleaning or re-sterilization) or reprocessing of any medical equipment/product/supply/device that is labeled single-use and/or disposable.
1.8 Troubleshoots errors and performs quality assurance checks. Participates in training new staff. Acts as a resource for perioperative area regarding anesthesia department processes. Facilitates learning and provides teaching opportunities for anesthesia related processes.
Required: Certification A.T. (Certified Anesthesia Technician)
Preferred: Certification ACLS
Required: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.).
Required: Minimum of two (2) years previous experience as Anesthesia Tech, PCT, Surgical Services or the like. Knowledge of hospital environment.
